Advice for 3440 x 1440 Resolution Gaming

Well im using 1 970 with no problems. I don't put anything on ultra, but if you leave everything in high your fine.

BF hardline - 60 - 90 fps
Farcry 4 - 55 - 65
Dying light - 50 - 65fps

My next natural purchase will probably be 980ti

How are the temps of the GPU? I appreciate the advice but not sure if it is a good idea to slap a 970 with a i7 5930k

It's not always the best advice to wait but in this instance I believe it is, with new cards expected from both AMD and NVidia in your price bracket that should suit your needs perfectly.

Yeah i suppose but if i get the monitor now and wait i can barely play games as my gpu sucks :(. Never been in a difficult position.

295x2 looks as though it could be a viable option for you?

I think that all 295x2 are reference build- but if you are interested am sure that shop would be able to advise if a particular make is reference or not.

Ocuk do their own:-

adds about £100 to total cost but less aggravation/warranty issues ?

My next screen will most likely be 3440 x 1440, but I'm waiting for a high Hz one with Gsync. The new Acer predator range looks like it will fit the bill, but I have serious reservations about buying an Acer screen. Will have to see.

GPU wise - if you can wait a bit longer then the obvious choice to my mind is the '980Ti' or AMD's 390x.

I'm in a similar boat. I used a Titan X for a week but it was faulty in the end so am now back on my 780Ti's in SLI. I currently game on a Rog Swift at 1440p.

After using the Titan X I am firmly back in the 'one fast card' fan club. My 780Ti's absolutley fly through all my games though, but there are some that have issues with microstutter/ SLI and Gsync. And like it or not, 3gb of Vram will become an issue soon.

Gsync is an absolute game changer for me though. I could not, and will not buy a new monitor without Gsync now, so I'm firmly in the green camp.

My summary - 980Ti is the card to get, if it is indeed simply a Titan X with 6GB Vram, and you can wait. If you can't wait, sod it and get a Titan X. £900 is a hell of a lot of money for one card though. I did feel slightly bonkers buying one. I'm going to bet the 980Ti will be £550-£650, depending on what the 390x does/ prices at.

Yeah I can see your view on that. Acer never really stuck out to me but warranty is warranty and OCUK are among the best so I'm not too worried. I bought the 4k2k and I couldn't be happier with it. It does feel a little cheap compared to my Lenovo monitor but I guess there has to be compromise.

Screen quality though is quite lovely. Little bit of bleed when it's all black but that doesn't happen very often and especially not in gaming.

Oh and forgot to mention that I am on a x99 platform so I can do 3 way crossfire/sli but heard the scaling are horrendous.

Yeah im on x99 platform too. 5820 cpu though. under load i believe the GPU was at 40 degrees after playing a good 3/4 hours of hardline.

This is a gigabyte windforce g1 970.

I had a R 280x Vapor-X and in games such as BF4 and hardline (Sure there are more demanding games out there) was doing okay on the default medium / High settings getting 45-50 Average FPS (default settings) on the LG34UC97. Was perfectly reasonable for myself. Turning down the AA helped.

Building a new machine myself so really just waiting on the R9 300 or GTX 980ti also. Now reverted back to connecting a GTX 660M to the screen, the horror :D

I've used a 980 at 3440x1440.

In general, you can expect 40-50 FPS ultra settings without AA in most modern AAA titles. In other words you will have to dial down the graphics settings quite a bit even with a 980 to achieve 60 FPS.

I've sold my 980 and my Titan X is due in the next couple of days. I imagine I'll be able to get a solid and stable 60FPS at ultra settings but without AA (or minimal AA). That's good enough until the G Sync 3440x1440 start rolling out. I'll try my best to stay away from SLI, though I've never used it before.

You must be brave for even trying and connecting it to a 660M

Nooooo..... just wait, It's better than not waiting and then finding yourself waiting around for crossfire profiles afterwards. Get a next gen top end card (Is that what they are?) like the 390x or 980ti.

I kinda understand what you are trying to say. Bought a second 7950 and crossfired it only to see the 780 ti and 290x come out. 0_0. Thats why this time i am more careful not to rush out and buy a gpu.

Crossfire worked pretty well for most games i played but occasionally had stuttering issues and one 7950 died and got it RMA thus left with a 280x which was a replacement. The temperature was another story tho. Never ever doing dual card with air....

Personally, I'm going to wait for next year, when Nvidia Will be releasing their new 'Pascal' architecture. This means I can slowly save up and increase my budget at the same time as well.

Currently running a single GTX 970 which despite the memory issue, runs well enough for me.
