Advice for a cheap motorway cruiser

Don't expect a good response on here, but very good cars.
It has a BMW powerplant, but there have been known issues such as MAFs dieing etc.

Not bad tbh, i've driven one many moons ago, didn't go round corners without the wingmirrors touching the floor but it was very comfy.
Thinking about it, the other decent cruiser is the Avensis. Not sure if 2k would buy a decent one, especially if you're after a derv. They dont have a great deal going for them except for the ride and the reliability but those are 2 things that make a good cruiser
How high is high?
They're cam chain so there's no regular belt replacement to worry about until the mileage gets really high (can't remember exactly how often though). The service schedule is quite a simple minor-minor-major every 12,500 miles or annually so just make sure they've all been completed and that the bodywork inspections have been ticked off so that if there's any rust problems with the doors then you stand a better chance of getting Ford to sort it.
They're not exactly specialist cars, designed for fleets and things to be simple to maintain so there's not a huge amount to look out for that common sense when car buying wouldnt cover
If its really high mileage, I'd be more comfortable if there was evidence that the DMF and clutch had been done.

I've seen this, don't know if anyone knows about these at this mileage. I could definitely increase my budget for this.

great cruising cars, but they are rather uneconomical..
they can also be quite expensive if things go wrong, but i think the petrols are more reliable than the diesels

what he said. you won't find a more reliable and cheaper motorway blaster than a mondeo. for £2k you should easily be able to pick up a post 2001 shape one.

fantastic smooth cars. expensive on parts though as a mate found out when it cost him £350 for an electric window switch. they have to be programmed to the car to work so i imagine a lot of it is a dealer only job.

if you were to budget for a 1.8 or 2.0 modeo you will easily see it into 6 figures a few times. a friend has them as hire cars as hes very astute with money and wanted the best overall car. some has been round the clock 5 times!
