Hi guys,

forgive me as I know this will sound dumb to a lot of the experienced people on here.

So I am looking at moving over to gaming on my laptop but have no real idea at what I need spec wise.

I just got a dell insiron 5502 in a sale, it has an 11th gen i7-1165G7, 8GB ram and I have just ordered another 8GB stick and Intel iris XE graphics.

Would this spec be good enough to handle gaming? I am not a hardcore gamer but I do like to play the newer titles, or at least I did when I was playing on console.

I still have a week or so return period on the Dell so what do people suggest, should i keep the dell or do I need to look at something else to handle games?

Any help would be greeat

Thanks guys,

found a lenovo Legion 5 on sale.
Ryzen 7 4800h and an NVIDIA GTX 1660ti GPU,

Reviews are really good, arrives tomorrow

You do know that GPU is nowhere near as powerful as the same counterpart model for a desktop?

Why did you get advise then go from a desktop to a laptop?

I never mentioned a desktop? Never owned a desktop. The my main need for a laptop is to be portable. I'm a musician, I track and record sessions on the go so it will be always be a laptop for me. So the legion fits the bill as it can run all my music software with ease and I can game on it, I'm not a hardcore gamer so I dont need super spec desktop, just something I can chill out with when I'm in and out of hotels

I know money is a factor when buying but if you really want to play up to date games isn't it better going for a laptop with a current gpu? The GTX 1660 is a couple of generations old now(released in 2019) and doesn't support DLSS which gives a nice framerate boost in some modern games(or raytracing for that but not sure how relevant that is for laptop gaming), and amd has released their new laptops with 5000 series cpu and 6800 gpu, and with their new framerate boost(FSR), the laptops should last a few years longer before needing updating? So a bit more money upfront for a couple of years longer use maybe? Haven't tried a gaming laptop so no idea how good the GTX 1660 on modern games.
