Ok am building a new machine from scratch and i want to avoid past mistakes so I want to ask what case is appropriate? I want a full tower so am considering the Lian-Li PC V2000 but would it be noise efficient and tool free? I'll be having water cooling for cpu,gpu but still I guess there will be some noise either from the Q-tec PSU or from side fans. Also any other good but cheaper case for let's say £100? I have 4 drives so i want it to have at least 6 bays at the front and be tool free.

CA-016-AK Akasa Eclipse 62 Thermally Advanced Side Panel (CA-016-AK)
£19.50 £19.50
CA-005-AK Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU (CA-005-AK)
£69.95 £69.95
CA-005-SK FSP Sparkle AX500-A Blue Storm 500W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-005-SK)
£49.95 £49.95
Subtotal £139.40
VAT £24.40
Total £163.80

Something like this, it isnt full tower but it has space for 7 HDs. The side panel aids cooling and it is one of the better cases for keeping quiet as it only needs 2 low airflow (and low noise) 120mm fans. Also a decent PSU, so you don't blow your new rig up with the Q-tec.

The akasa one has 4 x 5.25" external bays which is not enough.I wanna have room to spare. how many fans the lian requires?

The Q-tec is a 650W though:eek:

The Qtec is more likely 200w, very cheap and most people who use them with high end rigs end up with them blowing up and killing everything attached.

There is a reason why they are so cheap, a Seasonic 600w is £100 so you wonder how a £20 PSU can even compare, simply, it can not hope to.

its not the power rating, its the quality of th PSU.

They are very poor quality units and have a liability to pop and take out your nice shiny new hardware. The Power Supply is the heart of the PC, not somewhere you should skimp on.

I would reccomend a 500w+ PSU from either FSP/Seasonic/Tagan/Enermax

I do not normally do this, but the fact people spend time making this proves how bad they are.

Specs for Akasa said:
- 4 x 5.25" external bays
- 2 x 3.5" removable external bays
- 5 x 3.5" removable internal bays
- 2 x 3.5" extras bay bracket

O Rly? thats 5 in the front, 2 in the HD cage, 2 floppy bay drives which can take HDs and 4 spaces for optical bays. A total of 9 possible HDs + optical bay adapters.

Btw the Q-tec is a POS, get rid of it.

also why are you worrying about fans when you plan to watercool? :)

you should be thinking more about space for a 120.2 rad at least.

Ok Q-tec will get into retirement though it serves my current P4 2.8Ghz admirably. Which PSU of all is REALLY quiet? am a bit paranoid with noise

As for the case am hesitating to buy a midi tower since i want to water cool and therefore i need some room. In addition i like things big :D

most of the brand of PSU that have been reccomended to you are cooled by a 120mm fan so noise shouldnt be a problem with either.

The FSP 700w that I own is inaudible, as is a Silverstone strider, but I hear (or not as the case is) very good things about the Seasonics for low noise.

I want a PSU that is backed up with warranty as I would want to return it if it is noisy meaning that if I can hear it at the end of a normal room, it is noisy . How about the OCZ GameXStream 700w ?

Seasonic, Tagan and FSP ones, all that I have used have been innaudable from 1m away, yet alone a room.

The S12 and Tagan Easycon PSUs are silent from about 30cm away, which is usually enough.

you have to trust us here - these high-end PSUs are near silent, you wont hear them over any other component.

Im going for a passivle watercooled system myself, and the loudest component in my system is my HDD which is inside a silentmaxx enclosure anyway :)

The V2000 is a lovely case and is huge. If you want space for all your stuff and watercool it then the v2000 can easily take it. Another case to consider is the Lian Li G70.

I also can't belive you were gonna add a watercooling loop onto a Qtec PSU   I can see you like to live dangerously!!!!

I am doing a watercooling setup in a lian li v2000 at the moment (lookin the sticky at the top of this case forum for my worklog) and decided to go for a Enermax Liberty 620w as it has bucket loads of molex connectors and is modular so cable tidying should be a bit easier. If your not bothered by cable tidyness the Seasonics are great psu's. As for fans on the rad I am using Yateloons and after testing the there gonna be silent at 7v which is perfect :).

As for the case I shall go with the Lian-Vi 2000 as browsing through the posts people seem to be satisfied with it
For the Q-tec i had reservations and now i decided to kill it for a tagan one.
