Hi All.

I have built the following pc.

APU: AMD A8-3870k 3.0GHz
Motherboard: GA A55M DS2
RAM: 2 x 4GB 1600MHz
Radeon HD 7850 Graphics
Windows 7 64bit
3 case fans
stock heatsink/fan
600w psu

My question is ive been using the " AMD Catalyst Control Centre" to attempt to o.c. my cpu. There is a function called CPU OVERDRIVE.

You can do an automatic test which I have done. At stock it is 3.0MHz, but the automatic test managed to get it to 3.5MHz before it blue screened.
I now have the option to set it manually to between 3.0 to 3.5Mhz.

Please can someone say which would suit me best taking into consideration stock cooling and the above PC specs.

Cheers,

Dave

Also guys please could you advise is it best to upgrade from stock heatsink/cooler?? If so which heatsink and which thermal paste.

My cpu is FM1 socket.

id recommend getting a better cooler. as the stock one isnt designed for overclocking.

These are a good cooler. but it also depends on what case you have and if you have enough room and good air flow.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Alpenföhn Brocken CPU Cooler £32.99
Total : £38.96 (includes shipping : £4.98).

there is a guide here for thermal paste.

as for overclocking. i wouldn't use the CCC. i would do it via bios. that way, its your settings and is much more reliable.

If your new to the whole overclocking world, then I don't really see anythign wrong with CCC. Although the stock cooler is designed to run the CPU at the stock speed, if your pushing it to 3.5ghz that's 1/6 faster again than the stock cooler was designed for, so I'd definitely look into getting a performance cooler to repalce the stock item :D
