Advice for getting a first car?

LOL, i actually think that Fiesta interior looks OK :o . Mind you the black dash with the white dials looks better then that beige dash IMO.

Well i think i might still go for the Fiesta despite the negative comments but I'll defiantly be trying one first.

Unless anyone can recommend a better first car for £1500 - £2000 preferably insurance group 6 or below?.

are the old mondeos decent then , i notice they always get a mention in these sort of thread

just wondering because the new one i had to drive about for a week at work was a bit bleurgh

I personally would take any advice as just a starting point. Ultimately, you should test drive all the cars mentioned here, plus any others not mentioned here that take your fancy.

Definately go test drive a fiesta, then also test a few other cars in the bracket. Please also go test drive a Rover 25 / 200, you never know, you might be surprised how good they are. Plus go test things possibly outside your original spec. Try things like a mondeo, 406's and Xsara, the megane coupe, mitsubishi colt, 306 and even an early 206 may be in budget.

Ultimately whatever you buy you want to be happy with, so you the best way to know what you'll be happy with is to try as many cars are you can before you choose one.

Thanks for the advice, that sounds like a good idea.

I quite like the look of the Rover 25 you mentioned. Would it be hard to find spares now that Rover have gone bust?.

The only problem with getting a big car like a Mondeo is that i don't have a drive at the moment and will need to park on the street. There is hardly any space to park without double parking as it is.

In my 4 years of Rover ownership I only ever went to a dealer once to buy a part. Most bits were from a motor factors.

I'm sure there are loads of places still selling all the parts. There's quite a lot of rovers on the roads still. :)

The megannes are plaqued with electrical faults. My mates is a shocker. It's falling apart, the horn doesn't work. The bonnet release sensor has packed up meaning it won't start. Yet it's not the sensor apparently as this has been changed numerous times. Lights on the dash go out.

Fiesta. For the win.

Or even a little KA if they appeal to you?

Most randomly - have a look at 1.8 Seat Toledo's, if I remember correctly they are group 7 and I insured one pretty cheaply at 21 with 0 no claims. A whole lot more car than a Fiesta.

A quick look on autotrader shows there are a few around for about 2k
