Hello all,

I am looking for some advice after deciding to get a new pc. I do not have a lot of technical knowledge when it come to building one so would like to configure a pre-built one to better suit my needs.

I work as 3d artist and the new pc would mostly be used for this. I mainly use programs such as Zbrush, 3DS Max and engines such as Unity and Unreal. I will be looking to get a VR head set in the near future so this would be needed to be taken into consideration.

My budget would be a maximum of £1750.

If anyone could give me any advice on builds or configurations which you feel would best suit my needs then that would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou

Great, just trying to find out if you need the rendering power ontop . Some quotes on here have been just for modelling but no rendering or the other way around etc .

What's the max applications you've got running at once ?
Been a while since if done 3ds max at uni ... Would have unreal 3, 3DS & Photoshop shop on the go at all times .

Does your budget factor in screen and windows (there are ways of getting it cheaper like downloading and getting key - you'll have to search further yourself on that matter )

If you haven't got a screen and it's different budget and into design and creation , worth looking at the incoming HDR monitors.. yes most of use now does have one, but games that have just been released and in design have been designed to use HDR monitors . Nothing worse then creating someone to see it's actually not reflective of its true self .

Most likely it's looking ryzen 7 set up due to the thread count been needed over pure speed. 32GB for loading assets and then squeeze in what ever left for GPU.

What's the longest render time you've had ? And what GPU was it on ?

Generally I would have a 3 programs open at once, 3DS Max or zbrush, photoshop and Unreal or Unity. However I'm starting to get into substance painter so this would probably be open instead of Photoshop.

I would be looking to get new screens at some point so the budget does not take this into account, however it does include windows.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you my longest rendering time or the GPU, but would roughly be around 9 hours or so.

I will look into the Ryzen 7 builds based on your suggestion and try to configure something to fit my budget.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,761.07 (includes shipping: £13.20)

Power of 8 cores/12 threads to handle multitasking as well as gaming and Hybrid Rendering with V Ray.
Gtx 1070ti to give you raw horse power for gaming, rendering and VR with incoming High Pixel headsets .
Silent case to hide the horde of RGB these days and quite cooler which would allow overclock as well .
Large 1TB SSD drive for programs and OS and ganes, though would recommend HDD to store finished works and random files etc
32GB ram, at 3600hz. Now 4 sticks would out pressure on CPU memory controller and at launch I have a feeling it'll work straight off at 3200hz speed setting, and within a month or two on updated bios, and unleash 3600hz across 4 sticks ! Maybe hit 4000hz... Will have to see how well amd have done. And Ryzen loves ram speed ! What held back the first gen against Intel, could only run max 3000/3200 after a long while of bios updates and cpu microcodes
10 year warranty on one of the best PSU units acround and they are also OEM for a lot of brands too.
And Gigabyte for UK RMA of both card and board along with Rep support here. Guessing this machine is your lively hood as well ?

Reviews come out for ryzen+ or 2600/2700/X at roughly 1pm today. Officially it's 2pm

Thanks for taking the time to put that list together and for your help. I was struggling to put one together on my own, as my knowledge on these matters is not as good as it should be.

Thanks again.

no worries. case again is personal choice . keeping costs down again you could use cheaper case, cheaper PSU but still of high quality and good warranty and air cooler though should handle slight overclock

^ this one i went with the dvd drive and dvd windows options, but you can save money going with the usb option i used below and because of its standard high price, i chose the 480gb ssd for boot and 2tb hdd for everything else.

^ 500gb ssd boot drive, 480gb ssd for important active storage, 2tb hdd for backup and backlog of projects. 8gb 570 this time, went with the usb standalone option for windows over the dvd only options in the config, went with the 1700x version this time, the only downside is 2400mhz ram rather than a better suited 3000mhz because of board they chose, dont know what the power supply be either(on both).
