Advice for new build around £1600

Hey Guys,

Looking to replace my 4 1/2 year old PC - budget is around £1600. Will be used for normal working day work, with some occasional gaming (COD/The Division 2 etc) and photo editing via Lightroom.

I'm not too worried by how it looks and prefer a quieter system for the working day. Also will not be overclocking.

Going to get a Sabrent Rocket 1TB M.2 to host OS and games, already have a new 500GB 860 Evo SSD and an existing WD Red Pro 2TB for file storage. Any reason performance wise not to use them? Although I just noticed the mb may be able to host 2x M.2 drives?

I am guessing I will need to change my monitors too to make use of this? Currently using 2x AOC 2769M monitors on dual arm and used throughout the day for work. I have no real clue about gaming resolutions so again seeking advice. This would be a separate budget and perhaps a separate thread...

Cooling - I have not added anything for this. Current PC has a cooler but I have limited knowledge on this.

My current PC spec is as follows so not sure if any of this can be reused?
Intel 5820k @ 3.30GHz | Gigabyte X99M Gaming 5 | TeamGroup Elite 16GB 2400MHz |
KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 | Corsair Hydro H100i GTX | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB | Phanteks Evolv Micro ATX | AOC 2769M (x2) | Western Digital Caviar Red Pro 2TB

So many questions so can you let me know your thoughts on my basket please?
WD M.2 is just a placeholder, the case was the first one I saw and RAM was what I saw in other build suggestions. Thinking of 32GB but not sure if overkill or any better suggestions instead of 4 sticks.

Thanks in advance

Is anybody able to offer any advice?

Kind hit the nail on the head already mate, I like what you have planned. Shame you're not keeping the MATX case though. Having owned one I think its great (now have the evolve X) but given its quite space limiting, I can see why you switched. Actually, you'd have the budget for the Evolv X ;)

Looks solid mate :D

Edit: Will you need 32gb RAM? 16gb would be fine and bring the budget down for something else - Evolv X looooooool

If you want to go with 32gb ram your probably better going for 2 16gb sticks rather than 4x8gb.

3700x comes with a cooler so should be fine especially if your not planning to overclock.

Overall the build looks solid and the elite is a really good board.

Hi Washo,

Everything looks good to me, the motherboard only has 1 m.2 slot i believe and your build would easily run games at 1440p as well if you want to upgrade your monitors in the future, however your current 1080p ones are more than fine.

For gaming 16gb of memory is fine and should be more than enough for lightroom as well.

Unfortunately the cooler you currently has does not support AM4 so a new cooler would be required.

If i missed anything or you have anymore questions just let me know.

Thanks Snips86x. That is why I looked at a different case as I found the ATX quite tight for space as it is. Is the Evolv X much different?

Thanks guys. My current setup is getting a little laggy with games and the hard drive is paging more and more so I guessed as it is 4.5 years old, it was out of date.

Would you be able to suggest anything for the cooler? I have read that water coolers are not worth the risk now, but this out of my comfort zone.

Regarding RAM I did look at the available bundles but all 2x 16MB sticks looked to be out of stock.

Mate, it's massive!! It has space for ATX and itx build with loooooads of ssd slots (9). It's a proper enthusiast case and will not dissapoint. The cable management second to none imo.
I think you may be converting me...I didn't really like the USB slots on the side though, where the the R6 has them on top. Small preference though.

What do you do with your old systems? As you said mine is not too bad for a day to day PC and seems a shame to take it down the dump.

I see they have moved the slots to the front top as well so you have converted me! Thanks again.

Would you be able to advise what I need to do for a cooler? Any recommendations would be great.

I've has a few aios and no major issues. The first gen h100i was poor and prone to breaking down or not being as effective after a year or so but most have been revised and are fine now.

Fans look OK but look for high static pressure and cfm, they'll make the biggest difference

Hey Washo,

If you are happy with the performance of your current AIO water cooler, this model is AM4 compatible,

So the H100X suggested by Josh.B would be sufficient for this setup without the need for the Artic fans? Comfortable in the Evolv X ?
