Hi all.
My PC has served me well for the past few years, and is solid as a rock for what i use it for, but today i bought Dawn of War Retribution, and i can tell its taking moderate famerate hits in quite a few places.

My PC has the following:

Q6600 (stock)
4GB Ram
NVidia 8800GT (512MB)
Windows 7 (64bit)

Its also useful to know that i game at a res of 1280x1024

Anyway, im after a cheerful GPU upgrade for my PC, basically something that will cope with a few of the modern games, but is not overkill, as my PSU is only around 650W

Any ideas? As ive been 'out the loop' for a while!

Thanks!

Budget?

How about a Nvidia GTX 460? Low power and will easily handle modern games with max or close to max settings at 1280*1024 for a good few years to come.

They can be had for around £120 last time I looked.

Hi there,

At the moment the best value upgrade for you would either be the HD 5770 or GTX 460. The 5770 is currently £35 cheaper than the GTX 460 (its a today-only deal - act fast), and this is how the 5770 compares to your current card. This chart shows how the GTX 460 compares to the 5770.

That said - presumably as an Dawn of War Retribution is an RTS, it is pretty heavy on the CPU as well as the graphics card. Have you considered overclocking the CPU to see if that yields some performance improvements?

May I ask what make and model your PSU is?

Hi thanks for the advice.

I honestly cannot remember what make and model the psu is :( but it wasnt a cheapo generic one.

I tried overclocking once, and i just got a load of crashes, and i didnt even raise the speed much at all. I guess i should look at updating the motherboard bios before i try anything (ive never updated it).

I'll take a good look at those cards, and id say they are within my budget :)

Just a quick bump.

I purchaced the MSI 460GTX Cyclong a few weeks back.

Great great card, plays the games i wanted with ease. :)

Thanks to those who gave advice!
