evening all, well i found out today that i will be getting my nice big bonus at the end of this month. and would like to take my girlfriend away the weekend after valentines day.

we both live in Hampshire/Berkshire. i am thinking of a nice country hotel somewhere upto an hour or so's drive. spend the friday and sat night there. whereas she has suggested paris for the weekend.

any suggestions.

Petersham hotel, Richmond.

If she's suggested Paris, then I'd take her there to keep her face straight and not risk any arguements. :p

I have been planning a trip to Paris for my girlfriend... see the following threads:

I have budgeted the following for the trip (going on the 14th and returning on the 15th):

Coventry to Waterloo - £50 (all single tickets are gone)
Eurostar - £118
Insurance - £30
Hotel - £100
Breakfast at Hotel - £18
Dinner - £75
Eiffel Tower + Other Sites - £25
Random Taxi/Bus Fares - £25

This is the hotel I have booked:

This is the restaurant I have booked:

I have only planned a one night stay, so a weekend will go over your budget, but hope this gives you an idea of costs involved etc. What I did was look at packages on lastminute.com to get an idea of costs and then booked them separately. Eurostar.com are doing a few good deals which include train travel and hotel... so you could check them out.

Im trying to plan all this without telling my girlfriend - well I will tell her two weeks in advance ;)

:)

I haven't paid it yet, but should I get it?

You can get annual multitrip insurance for about £60. But also, in France, you can get the EHIC (IIRC) which entitles you to 'free' healthcare incase of illness/accident, you have to get a free card from here . The only thing travel insurance covers you for in EU is effectively repatriation in case of death and maybe lost luggage (but are you really taking that much for one night?) and maybe accident insurance (but you probably don't have that in the UK either!).
