Advice for wireless network needed pls :/

OK, so I got my netgear wireless router (WGR614 v6) and the kids have a pc in their bedroom, so I bought a wireless pci card from ebay and put it into the pc in the bedroom so they could use the internet (dont need file sharing just the net). Ive tried to use it to connect to the wireless router with the xp wireless connection stuff and the cards own software but it doesnt seem to be able to find it? I know the router is 'looking' as the light is showing up, but for some reason the pci card doesnt want to see anything, something im doing wrong?

Anyone got any ideas coz I tried to get it working for 4 hours today and now im stumped..

what make is the pci card? also , have you set any security on the router?

the pci card is a Realtek IEEE 802.11b, i have disabled the routers WEP (or whatever it is) so that this could connect thinking it might be something to do with the security but it made no difference, it still cant find the thing
