Hey guys/girls I'm currently looking at spending a decent amount of money on a gaming PC, hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks. I want to be able to play D3, Skyrim, BF3, SC2 and various other games on max settings - whilst being future proof at the same time.

In another thread I was given a few specs and have still not decided whether I'll go for a pre-built option or build it myself it just depends what I prefer when I come to click the order button :).

The Diablo 3 pre-builds came up for sale today which look great: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18402052

I'm just confused as I'm not sure whether to go for an AMD or Intel processor? And is the general consensus that Nvidia GFX cards are the ones to go for at the moment?

Do I go for a single GFX Card like a GTX670/680 or go for two cheaper cards in Crossfire or SLI?

I'll only be using 1 monitor that I also need to buy. Not interested in it being 3D at all, but want it to be 22-24 inches. Does it need to be 120hz to benefit games the most?

Apologies for all the questions.

I'll stick with Intel and Nvidia then as that seems to be the best option from what I've been reading all over the forums. Now just need to work out at what point to stop spending :/! Keep adding bits here and there and it's getting silly money without even looking at monitors or a keyboard+mouse.

intel all the way these days imo , amd dropped the ball last gen but were able to still be fairly competitive.

this gen they lost the ball and just arent a worthy choice, ATI seem to have dropped the ball and gone back to bad unreliable drivers aswell

Definitely go for intel processor and nvidia gpu, I'd personally go for the 670 as it's £100 cheaper than the 680, stock performs just as good and when oc'd outperforms the 680.
And it's just common fact intel butthurt AMD all day long.
Go for i5 2500k or higher.

For what its worth, I'm using a Radeon 7850 which I acquired recently and havent had any driver problems.

Also depends really on what resolution you're going to play at - I have a 24in monitor at 1080 and the 7850 handles anything I throw at it for even cheaper than the cards that have been suggested.

Again comes down to your budget and needs.

As for the processor I'd go with Ceptic's suggestion of the i5 2500k or better.

I'd go Intel. If the PC's main purpose is playing games, get an i5 3570K.

As for GPU, I'd always have a single powerful card over SLI or Crossfire, simply because you'll have less headaches with drivers and performance issues. I'm an nVidia man, so I'd go with a 670 or 680, but the AMD cards seem to be just as good.

As far as the monitor is concerned, 120Hz is worth it to me, but opinions will differ. It's much smoother. If you go for one, switch from 60, to 120, and then back again. You'll soon appreciate the difference. The BenQ XL2420T would be a good choice. You do have 14 days if purchasing from OcUK or 7 days elsewhere to return it under DSR if you don't feel it was worth it, though.

i asked the same thing as you a few weeks ago.

my advise to you is this

firest built it yourself, you will save a lot of money doing it this way and you will enjoy building it and know your new build inside out.
my pc spec pre built compaired to me building it saved me over £100

i would go for a intel cpu, i brought the ivybridge i5 - 3450 god dam its fast ! :)
with your gpu i would go with ati, again i brought the 6850 and its great. it handles all my games bf2,bf3 and it was only £100.
i know you can spend a massive amount on a gpu but is it worth it ?? for me it wasent. as long as it can handle your games and day to day needs.

just remember you can build a monster of a pc without spending the earth
