Yesterday my main comp which has been working fine for the last 2 years died, and i am looking for advice as to why.

I was just on the computer when it died, there was no warning, the power just went off, and refused to come back on. I opened it up to take a look and every few seconds the fans would flicker for an instant and move about a centimeter and the fan lights would be on instantaneously.
It refused to turn back on.
I reseated all the components and checked that everything was plugged in properly, and tried again.

This time something went pop, and annoyingly i am not sure what.
Since then i have unplugged it and have not turned it back on, as i am wondering wht course of action to take. The poping noise was definately electrical in nature.

I believe this to be a PSU or a Motherboard issue, as i cant think of anything else that would cause this sort of power failure, but i am worried that the pop could have been a second problem, rather than an extension of whatever caused the original power problem.

Just wondered what you guys would recommend i do to get this fixed, and i would really appreciate any adice you have.

The rig has been working fine for the past 2 years and there was not any overheating that i could see, so i dont thnk that was the problem.

What should my next course of action be??

I'd guess it was a PSU problem, usually anything down to a power issue stems from PSU problems.

Do you know what temperatures your machine was running at before it shut down?

Yeh , sounds like your PSU has gone, just hope it hasn't taken any other parts with it. Do you have a PSU from a different computer you could test with ?

It was not hot to the touch, bt i cant b sure.
The pop does have me worried though.
I do have a spare comp which is older, will there be any issues with the voltage/ampage if i just swap the probably blown PSU into the old comp to see if it works, since i doubt the PSU in the old comp will b gd enough to run the newer machine.
