Advice Needed - Dying HD?

Hi, i seem to have an problem with 1 of my Maxtor 80GB SATA drives

I normally run my pc 24/7 and up till a week or so ago my SATA drive has been making loud noises that sound like the head hitting the disk like say skidding on a vinyl record for instance. It does this about 5 to 6 times then will one allmighty skid then it screams at me with a frozen screen until i reboot. Post reboot the drive behaves perfectly for a few hours until it starts skidding and scream/freeze again

Is my drive dying or can i mabye save it b4 it really goes pop??

I'd probably suggest running Maxblast to see what it rates your drives health as. I'd suspect that the drive is dying though, I don't think there is anything too much that you can do to save it.

Try testing it with the maxtor utility and see what it tells you

Ran powermax 4.22 and it passed all the tests (only ran quick for now)

Looks like its back to giving OcUK my credit details again

SpeedFan's S.M.A.R.T. analysis is also quite good.

Even goes online & compares with similar drive/disk :cool:
