Hi

Iv have just bought an m4 128gb SSD and plan to use that as my boot drive and for games

my OS is currently installed on my HDD and i have the disc

do i need to disconnect HDD then Install Windows on the SSD and then reconnect the harddrive?

i want to keep all my games etc so dont want to end up deleting them can someone help me with what to do if what iv mentioned isnt correct

put in the cd and boot from cd, you get the option to choose where to install windows (ie choose the ssd)
but the new windows wont recognise the games you installed on your old windows (probably)
as always, back up before doing anything

so i can just connect them both at the same time? i dont need to disconnect the hdd also do i need to format the hdd when running the new ssd.becaise if i didnt i would still have all my things

just plug it in dont mess with anything on old drive

install windoze on new drive and either link from new faster os on nssd to games on old drive or reinstall games on ssd that u want to use most of time

set up a dual boot so you can boot into your fast system or your old one

used easybcd to multi boot i do it atm with 5 operating systems in the same pc.

or you can just unplug the sata cable from your current HD make sure you connect the ssd to the correct ports and do it that way when done reconnect old drive and either use it as storage or set up dual boot or what ever you want to do with it

Be careful with leaving the other drive in. Sometimes Windows decides to install the System reserved (boot) File on the HDD which is a pain if it fails you lose both drives if the HDD dies.

ok thanks il follow the instructions i might disconnect the drive to be safe, once iv installed windows on the ssd i will reconnect my hdd and have the os on both drives, this will definitely be ok? and this will mean i dont need to reinstall and lose all my games and saves?

you can set a basic boot order in bios then set up a multi boot system m8 i never remove old stuff untill the new is up and working

you then have the choice

if u remove stuff first then find u have a problem its gone or damn hard to get back

only one thing so far u can change where ther MBR is stored at anytime if need be but pretty much the first vid is spot on .

double sided tape ?? lolz

good simple advice on there tho well worth a look

thanks guys, just another quick question i have an asus z68 gen v3 board and is the white sata port the correct one for the SSD as there is 2 blue ones aswell? and is that a sata 2 or 3 cable i need
