Hi guys, my first post. Well ive had my trusty NEC Diamond pro 930SB 19" now for 7 years, but it's finally dying on me and i need a new monitor.

I have a decent PC, Q6600 @ 3Ghz, 4GB RAM, 5870, so i want a good size monitor, and im used to gaming at 1600x1200 on my CRT, so want that size rez.

Im not a hardcore online gamer or anything, but i do play lots of different games, and gaming is the main focus, mostly FPS and RTS in single player. Viewing angles aren't a concern.

My main concern is colours and ghosting. Now ive done a bit of research and it seems there isn't a panel out there does everything well, it's either good colours, but maybe ghosting, or no ghosting, but not great colours, i.e 120Hz screens.

So what do you guys reccommend? Are the 120Hz screen good? ive been looking at the HP screen and the one thats hard to get hold off, but it's putting me off?

My budget is like up to £500, and im looking at around 24"

Thanks.

about 6 days ago i went from a 19" crt id had for 10 years to a alienware 23" 120hz 3D and its very nice :)
the screen is 15mm taller and 145mm wider than my 19" crt.... did you need bigger?

I haven't seen a 24" 120Hz yet?

Reading a review of the Alienware, it says the colours really aren't all that.

I don't want to drop 450quid on a monitor and have crappy grey's and blacks.

What about the HP LP2475w 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor?

Think im just gonna stump for the HP LP2475W? The lesser model doesn't seem as good out of the box as ive read, and i can afford the extra, just want the best monitor for gaming, no lag and good colours?

Don't think you'll be disappointed with the HP screen mentioned. Custom PC did a very positive review of it and I believe it also featured well in a review at TFT Central. Nice to have that sort of budget ;)

I've gone to an lp2475w from a 21" crt, definitely not disappointed, the wide colour gamut is great. Put next to the old crt in mirrored mode i can just see the flat screen lagging behind the crt if i move a window up and down quickly. The flatscreen looks sharper as well as having more real estate, the lower sharpness of the crt might be down to it being old though. Photos and hd films look amazing on it, i would say the black depth is at least as good as my old crt when set up a bit.

Portrait mode is great for web browsing:)
