So last week I had a wrap party for a film I had been working on! I stuck The bath on and ironed a shirt, 5 mins I left the bath over flowed and a small part of the carpet got wet!

I was told they would sort me another room and I appoliged none stop! I agree it's nobody else's fault but mine! But they never said anything about a possible fee etc they said don't worry about it! Accidents happen!

Now today I have had a phone call out the blue, they have a bill for £500 for me! But they have no reciept or invoice but tell me the carpet had to be replaced and the room made Unavailable for the whole week!

Do I have any way of fighting this charge? I don't have £500 at my disposal 9 days before I go travelling :(

Nope carpet in the bedroom! It ran out the covered about 2foot square bit!

They said they tried a carpet cleaner, drying the room and nothing worked it started to smell and needed replacement!

I'm positive a decent carpet cleaner would sort that out pretty quickly.

Not sure on what to advise on the charge though, but yes seems a little weird they had to replace the whole carpet.

Tell them to prove the expenditure, otherwise its pretty unreasonable.

They are going to give me a reciept for the carpet apparently

Couldn't believe it when they called!! Have to wait for this reciept now I guess!

I told them on the phone I don't have that money just to throw around, and we will negotiate further once I recieve stuff in writing, have told them I leave the county soon and if it's on going past that date they will get no correspondence untill I return in march!

If you haven't signed anything tell them you don't know what they're talking about. This is what happens when you're honest, people take the pee.

You should have just dried it yourself and not said anything. £500 seems unreasonable just for something that could have been easily cleaned up.

Tell them to do one or claim on their insurance as I'm sure loads of worst things have happened in their rooms without the customer being charged.

Also you may be covered by your contents / house insurance if they get legal.

Taken from their website T&Cs -

You are responsible for any damage caused to the allocated rooms or the furnishings of the hotel. If any act, default or neglect by the guests or organisers results in damage or complaints from other guests, the customer shall be liable to pay to Premier Inn on demand the amount required to make good or remedy such damage.

In the event of willful or negligent interruption to the business or other customers, Premier Inn will charge the amount of any loss to the Customer and terminate the contract. Premier Inn will not be liable for any refund or compensation in such circumstances.

Guess you're liable, however I would want to see an invoice first.

Ahhh rubbish :(

No way out of this then! How do I find £500 9 days before I leave to travel :/

You're seriously going to pay up £500 for some spilt water? What on earth did they do afterwards to necessitate loss of room for one week and a replacement carpet?

I'd fight it.
