OK - I've been in current rented accomodation for the last 11 months now, in the same place on a secondment at work.

On Saturday my Combi-Boiler's Gas Valve stopped working - causing the boiler not to fire up at all. This means I have no hot water, no heating. Therefore my problems are; I can't shower, I can't Wash any clothes as I use the radiators to dry them & it's surprisingly cold up North.

The Landlord uses a Letting Agency to Sort of Manage the property until you're moved in however lend hands of advise and contacts of people who can help fix problems on behalf of the landlord and the landlord coughs up the payment.

I've just found out that the Part required to solve the Combi-Boilers issues, has a 7 Day lead time from today (already being without heating, or hot water since Saturday Morning) I've called the agency to say this isn't acceptable and the only thing they could offer me was a electric heater..? that obviously I would have to pay for & they guzzle excessive amounts of leccy, if you've used one before I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm not sure what to do, contact the landlord and insist he puts me up in a hotel?

Advice please.

I doubt they would offer the hotel, but perhaps get them to reduce your rent so you can run the electric heater and get them to reduce it abit as you will need to use a laundry shop.

I had the same issue when I moved into my new place, took em about 5 days to come out which I too thought was a bit ridiculous but apparently that was all that could be done. Luckily I had free callouts from my Halifax account and they bodged it until the agency sent someone.

Heating? ......... on June 8th? ....... even in cloudy Leeds it is warm enough; take a meter reading before and after the electric water heater and get the landlord to pay.
