Hey everyone - first post here.

Okay, so I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster P2450H for £200.
I think I made a good choice as I will using this for games and watching videos . But people have been saying the B2450H is better, but it doesn't look as nice. Opinions?

But my main question is, I'm going to get the Dell U2410 next to use as my main monitor in a dual screen setup with the Samsung... Do you think I have made the right choice with the Samsung. Bearing in mind that I nearly chose a Samsung SM2443BW instead so that they would match in resolution.

Also, will the different aspect ratios be annoying to work with?

Thanks

- Reece

The differences are nothing major. The B2430H has slightly better 'default' colours and higher potential brightness but once you've tweaked to your liking the image is very similar on both.

Yes. I want an ips display as I do some amatuer graphics/photography work and because they are better to look at in general. And the u2410 seems like the best option because of the connectivity, and the ergonomics. I also do programming so swivelling will be useful. At the moment I'm living with technika 22" 1050px wide TV. Which is just disgusting lol

I did see the hp one but, my heart is set on the dell. The only thing I wish the Samsung had, is swivel. And then I could keep the u2410 in landscape orientation.

Also, I plan on calibrating the Samsung by using website wizards. So it should look okay.

Hmm... I actually think the U2410 is a fantastic gaming monitor too and you could just use that for everything and sell the Samsung. If you need to do any kind of dual-screen stuff you could consider selling your Samsung and getting 2x U2311Hs perhaps? The problem with TN panels is you can calibrate them all you want but the colour consistency is bad - it is impossible to calibrate the whole screen area in other words, even if you're just sitting infront of it.

Do you think I should cancel the Samsung because I still can. And get the u2311h instead... But will the response time make a difference when watching films? But then again the colours and viewing angles will make it better..,, hmmm tough decision.

I haven't really tested the monitors for console gaming, but the U2311H lacks HDMI so this would probably be an issue. The U2410 on the other hand does offer HDMI but its native resolution is higher than you would like for your Xbox. That being said the U2410 does provide appropriate scaling options (but this isn't something I know much about).

The response time does make a slight difference when watching films but it is certainly more pronounced during gaming. I would actually suggest you get the U2410 first if you can and see if you can use that for everything.

But I did want dual screens for productivity whole programming because I will probably have to multitask a lot due to all my uni projects/coursework. Do you think I should cancel the Samsung and get some more advice
Before it dispatches?

Thanks again.

It won't dispatch during the weekend so I'd hang fire. I assume you've got a seperate sound system for your Xbox? I'd recommend two U2311Hs for uniformity purposes if you want everything to look the same and a simple HDMI->DVI convertor cable (they are electrically compatible but the DVI won't carry an audio signal to the monitor). If you are just going to be doing different tasks then you might be fine with monitors of different sizes - it's just that the U2410 is such a good gaming monitor as well that it would be a shame not to use it as one if you had it. But I understand two of them is way too expensive :).

Yes I do have some 3.5mm speakers which I use with my current tv with my xbox.... My tv at the moment is rayed as 8 ms which I think is terrible for a TN tv, it's also 16:10.

I really can't make my mind up... I know I want an IPS. Preferably the u2410. It's the one that goes along with it that I'm so indecisive with.

I need someone to just order me to get one lol

Very good reviews, I think I have already read the U2410 one.

I am going to get the U2410 in about a months time... but I want to get my other monitor sooner.

so its out of.

Dell U2311h
Samsung B2430H
Samsung P2430H
Samsung SM2443BW 16:10 1200px (good ergonomics also, but letterbox when xboxing and film watching (without stretching))
Samsung BX2450 LED
Benq G2420HD
LG W2361V-PF

Im thinking I should go with the Dell because of IPS, but then what's the point of getting a slow response 16:9 when im getting the U2410 as my main PC monitor. But I do like the sound of the ergonomics of the Dell. Hmmmm.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

What would you go for in my situation?

Personally I'd want to use the U2410 as much as I can, as my primary monitor, and get a cheap secondary monitor. If you like the look of the P2450H (which I assume you do seeing as you ordered it) then I would suggest looking at the P2350 - it's a little smaller and doesn't have HDMI but it's a lot cheaper at the moment. I can also recommend the B2430H but it's up to you as the image is fairly similar to the P2450H you already tried to order. :D

Im really looking at getting the U2311H now... especially as OC has it on offer for £258. Read that it has little input lag and the ergonomics of it will help me a lot for the coming year of programming coursework.... Do you think im making a good choice? or should I stick with a cheap TN that doesnt swivel but will have a fast response. To tell the truth I dont think a a slightly slow response time will annoy me that much. Just if you think its worth the extra £50?

Response time Vs Beauty, Gaming Vs Work?

It's difficult because... Having just reviewed the U2410 and the U2211H I loved them both for different reasons. The U2410 was probably the better of the two for gaming. But then again if you aren't particularly sensitive to fairly minor trailing then the U2311H will offer a pretty good experience compared to most TN panels. You are also very right - the U2311H does have low input lag. Did you also read the U2211H review of ours? :)

I did indeed.... very good reviews, I left a comment on the U2410 one.

I might have to go for the U2311H.... there is no point in me getting the U2211H as its the same price lol. I think I might have to cancel my Samsung order and go with the 23incher. Im sure its worth the extra £50. And by looking at your 22" review I could see the difference in size with the 24" is very much liveable... and im going to get the 23" so, even better.

Thanks for all your help, i'll probably speak you in other posts :) I'll keep this thread updated when I get the monitor.

Awesome! Yeah difficult deal to resist really isn't it? Strangely I look forward to the arrival of your monitor too :D

Yeah, I look forward to receiving it. :) Cant wait now. Going to order it now... Just need confirmation of cancellation from the online shop that starts with E.

okay am im back....

got the monitor a few hours ago and WOW! Never seen an IPS panel before (not incl. iPhone 4) and it looks amazing, its Rev 00 Made in March which I was a bit annoyed at but - I can't see any faults, cant see any tinting? Very happy with the purchase... Less eye strain too.

But now I dont know if should get a second U2311h or get the U2410 as my second monitor?... is the U2410 worth the extra money?
