hi I'm looking for a little advice on weather I can better this build or simply if it is right for its intended purpose of playing games.

okay so I'm mainly concerned about the motherboard, but advice on other aspects and components would be much appreciated

okay, power supply corsair 600w ax
processor fx6300 black edition
ram corsair 8 gb 1600mhz
motherboard Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard (AMD 970/SB950 ???
case zelman z9
cheap lg optical drive
western digital 3.5 hard drive

which brings me to my total budget of around £350

i will get the video card next month

msi 670 oc edition 180 ish depending on offers etc

If anyone can offer some advice on weather i have chosen the best components for the money or offer an alternative within my price range or very close to it that would be great.

obviously i would like a mother board with an inbuilt graphics chip just so i can use my pc now but I think i have gone with the better motherboard as a sacrifice of a gpu.

hopefully want to start ordering tonight :)

many thanks, Forbs

ps, just to be used for games on high and general web surfing.

On that budget, i would look at Richland and a 7750 in hybrid crossfiyre.

Is Richland a make of motherboard?

And by crossfire do you mean using 2 of the same cards?

I always thought having one really good card would out preform 2 low end ones

However I am still learning and I will be coming into the rest of my budget next month regardless :)

Thanks for your reply

The motherboard is ok, but it has no onboard graphics so you'd need to get a GPU at the same time. You could get a temporary one for about £20.

Thanks for the reply, yeah well if needs be I will just wait till I order my good graphics card no big deal really.

So would you say the mother board is a good choice

The motherboard is fine for a 6300 :) I personally would not want to go for a cheaper one though. The motherboard don't have any graphics output though but if you want a temporary GPU you can look on auction sites for a cheapy one to tide you over the month :)

MB wise it really depends on what you want to do, if your planning on overclokcing the CPU then it becomes important to get the right MB for your price range, however if you just want a build it and leave it alone machine then really its pay your money take your choice, any MB will be OK to use, the more you spend thought the better the qualit yof the components and a more versatile set of options.

The CPu is fine, AMD are cheaper than Intel, but they are cheaper for a reason. You may get more cores but it really depends on if you are going to use them all, a lot of games on utilize 4 cores anyway and unless your doing video encoding etc the other cores may never see the light of day.

Memory wise, 8GB is a good healthy amount, it will serve you well for gaming and anything else you want to do. Only when you get into massive amounts of graphic design work will you realistically want more.

Thankyou
what do you think of the rest of my build mate?

Yeah I was thinking as much, I actually have a 6+ year old GeForce 2 graphics card that might tide me over I will start ordering then I think tonight. The whole process will be a massive learning curve,

Anymore comments or tips on How to better my spec or machine would be great, I have already done quite a lot of research so I'm not being lazy but it's a good way to get to know people on the forum if nothing else

thanks again. Forbs

Great info just what I am looking for, I may be overclocking at some point but nothing aggressive ( just mainly to learn how to do it) so as long as it will meet my needs that's great :)

Yeah basically that is my spec apart from the motherboard seems slightly better then the £59 one I have found maybe an updated model ?

The board is good for overclocking the CPU. You'd want a good CPU cooler though, e.g. the Coolermaster Hyper 212.

Yeah thanks for letting me know, I won't over clock to begin with I think with that fx 6300, 8 gb of ram and a nividia 670 oc edition it should play everything well ... I could be wrong though lol

The 6300 can go quite high, they can all do at least 4GHz, most can get to 4.5GHz without much effort. I'd go for a HIS 7950 at the current price over the 670, but they're both good cards.

thanks teppic for the info mate,

i have just been looking at the cheapest gpu possible and i can get it next day delivery for about £15 ish.. just to work my screen it should be okay

one thing i have not thought of until now is how i'm going to connect my computer to the internet...

I highly doubt the mobo has an inbuilt wifi. And there seems to be a highly confusing variety of prices. do i go for a dongle or a wifi card? i would again be very appreciative of any help on this matter.

my wireless internet runs at about 15mb and is more then fast enough from console gaming, so something to compliment that really

again mucho appreciated for your help teppic , reeza86 , smoogels , snips86x :)
