Advice on applying for an ESTA

I'm hoping to visit the USA next year. I visited in 2017 and had an ESTA for that but things were much simpler in those days. I started filling in the form and came to a halt because it wants the place I'm staying and a USA contact. I've yet to book a hotel so I can put the former in when I book that but what about the latter? Do I put the name of the manager of the hotel and the hotel's address? Or my name and the hotel's address? Or something else?

If you are staying in a hotel then its contact details would be your 'USA contact' that you enter.

You can also put 'Unknown'. At the POE you may then be asked for the contact details when they see it is blank.

Alternatively just book your first night only and put those details in.

Also apply days before you go and maximise how much time you have left on it after In Case you go back.
Depending on the value of the trip, and if it is intended to return frequently in the future (i.e length of maximising ESTA is valuable) i would recommend against "a few days".

When I applied, despite having a completely clean record/nothing of note and having a POC in the USA on entry so wasn't even going to an "unknown" my esta was obviously put through some extra check processes which meant it took 10 days to get through, so was slightly squeeky bum time as was issued 2 days before my departure for an important work trip.

Saying that, when I went for leisure earlier in the year so wife and daughter needed to do it, their applications were approved overnight so *usually* they are quick, but no harm in giving yourself a bit more leeway!

I did mine earlier today and just put the hotel I was staying at as the USA contact. Mine also didn’t get approved straight away and said it could take up to 72 hours for the additional checks however it came back approved within a few hours.

I travelled to Cuba in 2017. So thanks to Trump I get to tick the box that allies me with terrorist states such as Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Syria etc. Bloody Americans..

Count yourself lucky as anyone who visited Cuba since Jan 12 2021 is not even eligible to travel under the VWP/ESTA.

Oh I know. One of the reasons we decided to go in 2017 was because we thought it was all going to change as Obama opened things up for them and improved it pre-2016.. but then we saw Trump roll all of that stuff back. It's really sad if you visit the country - I mean the real country - not the resorts. It's a beautiful place, amazing people and culture.. yet they're all so destitute because of the US sanctions. It's just a socialist country, they dont care about the US or anything yet they're punished every single day for absolutely no reason. It makes me so sad :( Absolutely insane that they are lumped in with Iran and North Korea for example...

It would be funny if I couldnt travel, because my boss and head office is in the US and I used to go at least once a year. (And I have family there too) :o

A colleague of my brother's has a separate passport for all that. He's just one trip - North Korea - away from completing the 'axis of evil'. Unfortunately NK has no significant oil.
