Advice on Bundle

I was thinking of getting this bundle from OC:

** Overclocked Bundle ** Abit IP35 Pro Motherboard / Intel Q6600 Quad Core @ 3.3Ghz / 2GB (2x1GB) OCZ PC-8500 RAM / Tuniq Tower CPU Cooler

But I dont want to use that RAM as it is as I want 4gig. I want to use same stuff, but 2x 2 gig sticks (OCZ Reaper)....or get 4 of those sticks in there instead.

The spec says this overclock is only for specified amount of RAM, and the techies confirmed that and said it could be unstable with different amount of RAM.

Would this be very simple to adjust? I used to OC a while back, but I was a bit of a novice....and sometimes created unstable systems! I don't want to go back there!

i wouldnt bother with the bundles, overclocking is about gettting free preformance from existing hardware, not paying more to have existing hardware go faster
 
it will be easy to adjust, you can also get away with pc2-6400 RAM unless you are -planning on getting more than 3.6GHz out of your CPU without Overclocking your RAM.

Janesy B - Unfortunately, my current hardware is just too slow now, its a shame because I got the last of the AGP boards and have to upgrade everything, rather than just the card now. So overclocking won't help me really.

So I need new kit and I as the parts are the same price, or cheaper bundled, I though it would be a way to make my money go farther.
 
i suggest you tell us what you got and a budget along with what you want the setup to do so we can give you a wide range of options on what to get.
 
set up is for games. I dont so a lot else that takes a strain on the system.

The system I had been thinking of was the bundle described and a decent PSU, about 700 watts becasue I dont want to have top get a new one when more power hungry components are out there.

I want to get Vista 64, which will be £60
I have an 8800 gts
want 4 gig fast ram (i know its not really important for games at the moment - i dont want to get more later)

I a\lready have dual raptors (Raid_0) and the DVD drives etc I need.

I want very fast frame rates with all candy turned on, i am only using a 1280x1024 monitor at the mo, thats why I didnt get a bigger GFX card right now. But I will upgrade monitor and card next gen of cards.

Budget had been about £600 including the OS. Can go a little higher, especially as PSUs are very expensive (not sure I trust the cheap ones anyway).

Components nowadays are always as energy efficient as possible.

A corsair 620 Watt modular PSU is a very good PSU, which is very highly rated and more than powerful enough for almost anything you throw at it (until you're talking about very big OCs, multiple gfx and many HDD and optical drives)
 
Thanks Ben - I did look at some 600w PSUs, modular sounds good too, I would definately prefer that.

The reason I was looking at 700 w is that the last two PSUs I have had (Antic 450 and TAGAN 480) were also said to be all I would ever need when I got them....and they are such good quality it seems annoying replacing 3 years later when new technologies may require more power.

I will take a look at that PSU though as I don't think SLI is likely to grab me anytime soon.

that not what i meant, by all means upgrade your system, but source the parts yourself. the bundles aren't brilliant value and it takes all the fun of overclocking away from you :)

Thanks - I have actually done that now. Got some parts, different to the bundle, but the bundle game me some hints - I used to build pcs a lot, but havent for a few years now, so was rather out of touch.

I will hopefully get the chance to build at the weekend, I have taklen the plunge and gone for Vista 64, I know there are some driver issues, but Im sure it will be fine - though I wont utilise the extra RAM just yet.

I will probably come back and ask for some help - I really dont know whether the stuff will even fit in my case :)

Still hoping to get a really good clock on the Q6600.

Actually those driver issues were at launch, haven't had driver issues with Vista since last summer :) definetly Vista 64, I still can't understand why anyone would bother with Vista 32

Glad to hear it, I hope I don't get any issues with some of my older hardware. Though if the NIC + SOundcard doesnt work I can use onboard I guess.
