I am thinking of buying a new MBP and wanted to get advice on which one I should buy. I currently just use a laptop for browsing, watching video/films and listening to music. My current laptop is constantly connected to a 50" plasma via HDMI, I use this for my movie watching. Anyway I had a few questions.....

Will a MBP be able to play full 1080p HD video?
Will it be able to output to the plasma TV via HDMI?
I see the 15" 2.66GHz model has an extra 9600GT gfx card on top of the 9400M, is this needed for what I would be using it for?
If I don’t require the extra gfx power would it be worth while using the saving to invest in more ram or a blueray drive?

Oh I also heard about the HE deals, my gf is a student at uni. Is it just a case of her ordering from within the uni network or does she need to show her uni ID card in an apple store?

Cheers

I'm after an MBP for pretty much the same uses, hopefully my thread from a week or so ago should help out... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18032352

Yeah she can just order it from the uni network.

Thanks for the reply mate that did help answer most of the questions. So did you end up going for the 2.66 15"?.... how does it handle the HD content?

I have an older 2.16 15" (i think, well anyways it's a older non-unibody MBP) and it plays 1080p stuff fine, so i'd have thought it would play on the newer models just fine :)

hope this helps

I think I will go with the 2.66 15", yeah. I've not placed my order yet but from what everyone says it should handle the HD content pretty easily.

My 2.0 15" MBP from early 2008 handles 1080p fine so the new ones should! (upgraded it to 4 gig ram but it does not normally get close to this with movies.

My old (2.16) MBP was a refurb, the warranty is standard 1 year and the condition was as new. Saved £300.
