Advice on first PC

Bare in mind that review was in a group test, a few asus boards in this review, so its bound to struggle against them.

hmm well i dont think i will be going for the gigabyte. im looking at the the P6TD but it doesnt look like it is very stable overclocking the i7 920 to 4ghz which im really excited about doing

ok im noob but ive done my research and this is what i have come up with. mostly i have designed it to be really quiet and efficient. if you are wondering why i dont had any HDD or anything its cos i already have one. and also i havent decided on any fans. so i want to ask if there is anything i can improve on or anything. my budget is about 900 quid. also do you think any of these components will come down in price over the next month or so?

heres my shopping list

thanks to anyone who answers

Well, what do you want out of your build ?

Gaming ? Speed ? Quiet ?

i7 is still pretty steep, not worth paying all that if you want it for gaming and other normal computing. Also the R2 case has had mixed reviews, gets pretty toasty with a couple of fans. And the water-cooling isn't amazing for the price. What hard-drive you got ? Is it set up in raid 0, will be a lot faster than one.

Go for a powerful i5 build with a top graphics card, this is pretty much my next build. I think it will do well, should give me many years of gaming and computing :)

Hope this helps,

hmm well i dont think is a good idea to reduce price on PSU but maybe case. well i want to future proof this system to an extent so i think an i7 920 is a good idea because i think it has some untold potential that could be unlocked sometime in the future... or maybe thats wishful thinking. well im pretty sure about going for the i7. if the R2 gets hot then im thinking of getting some of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-057-AK which apparently are great for cooling. thanks for the advice on the H50 im still looking at other CPU coolers but the H50 has got good reviews and has consistent temperature reductions on overclocked i7s

edit: OneAndOnly its for gaming, quiet adn efficiency. thats why im trying to cool it as much as possible. just wish i could afford the Vapor-X 5870 :( dunno what to change to free up some cash to get it

mmm 1 thousand on i5... well ive read about them and although they are not as snazzy as the i7 they are still very powerful and perfectly capable of what the i7 can do. but i7 920 is definately a base in advancement and i think it will keep its potential for longer than the i5

Depends, a 1k i7 build will make me sacrifice in other areas whereas all those parts are powerful and top quality with great reviews. I wanted a powerful graphics, stability, a cool dust proof system that will look good and be very quiet. I don't think I need much more for a good few years, you find a i7 system with all that . . .

well my build at the moment is very quiet but how fast do you want to go? :D im going to upgrade at a later date but having an i7 now rather than later means i wont have to get a new mobo, triple channel RAM, just to get an i7. but i believe in personal choice and it depends on your funding too. so go with i5 by all means :)

Socket1366/i7 will get hex(6) core cpu this year. Not heard a thing about i5 getting it.

So future proof has to go to i7/1366
