I have just got 3 x 1TB drives and 1x 500GB drive not including a 80GB drive I use as a boot drive for my mini windows xp PC that I use as a file server and download box.

I was wondering what would be the best way I could set them up as currently I just have the 80GB boot drive and a 1TB drive in there with all media and downloads on and backup to a 750GB external but this is now full.

Ideally I want to have one large storage area for all my media and downloads but with some backup space.

I was thinking of getting a raid controller card that does raid 5 and having the 3 x 1TB drives on that giving me a 2TB storage space for media and downloads with hopefully some resiliency with the raid in case of drive failure.

Then having the 500GB as external backup where I just manually copy my documents and important files to from my main pc etc to.

This way I don't have a actual backup copy of my media though and I am a bit unsure as to whether or not I need one and was wondering if anyone could come up with a better solution for me.

Cheers
