Advice on installing SSD

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Samsung 120GB Evo and I'll be having that as boot drive. At the moment I have a 1TB main drive which is partitioned into an OS section (about 120GB) and the rest for storage. I was just wondering whether I could format the OS partition and merge it with the larger partition? Or would I have to format both partitions before merging them?

Also, my original thinking behind having the two seperate partitions was so that if I had to format the OS partition, I wouldn't have to reinstall all my games (which are in the storage partition). Is that really the case? Or would they stop working?

if the games are installed onto the storage hdd partition then they will keep working

you should be able to clone the os partition to the new ssd(though ive never tried cloning just a partition) with Samsung migration tool

then once done you can boot from the new ssd connect old hdd and delete the os partition, and expand the storage partition to fill the whole hdd

then you'll be left with the ssd having the os on it and the whole hdd as storage

note,if your original hdd/os was installed under ide mode, you'll have to do a reg tweak later to enable ahci without a re install, simple on win7 if win8 idk how to do that one

ahci mode is essential for fast speeds with an ssd

Thanks! Sounds good. Looks like I can do it pretty smoothly.

Acutally, one more question. If I were to to do a clean install, rather than migrate would the games/programs on my storage drive still work?

should do if you created a shortcut for each game, find the game folder and the exe file then right click/create shortcut on desktop
