I am considering getting the above system from OC to replace my aging Gigabyte P57. Game wise I will be playing games like Warframe, Baldurs Gate 3 and ones I dont even know have come out yet! I am a bit of a graphics snob, I like my games to be smooth but high graphics, otherwise I feel gaming is pointless if the graphics wont immerse me!

I am years behind and would appreciate some feedback in comparison to the other shortlisted option which was a laptop Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7, 16GB , RTX 3060.

Kolink Inspire Series K2 ARGB Micro-ATX Case - Black Window

AMD Ryzen 5 5500 Six Core 3.6GHz (4.2GHz Boost) Processor - MPK

Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey

Build Stock* MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12GB OC Graphics Card

WD Blue 500GB 3D NAND SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive *SI STOCK* (WDS500G2B0A)

ADDON AWU-G30 Dual-Band Wireless AC1300 Nano USB Network Adapter

No OS

= £865.91

I was going to phone as ask for a new PSU to be added into the build, can anyone recommend which?

I dont want this to go over the price of the laptop (which is my max), a main reason for a desktop was because its currently cheaper. ( i have an old BenQ 3D monitor I will be using)

Thanks.

Hi.

Corsair rm
Superflower
Bitfenix formula
Phanteks amp.

Are all decent value for money , mite be worth getting 750w for future you upgrades.

Case is poor with little airflow.

Either of the above psu will be suitable for your needs. I personally would get the Superflower whilst it is that price.

I am sure you could build a better PC for cheaper if you self build but there is nothing untoward with the components above and it will be a fine midrange PC. If you are ringing them up to get them to change the PSU then see if they will also put in a 1gb NVME SSD instead of the SATA SSD.

Thats the cheapest for sale on OCUK at moment so I would get that.

Thank you for all your input!

I havent self-built a PC for over a decade and I am not confident having to install CPU and coolers, the rest I would be fine with. Think you could spec me up a 'better PC for cheaper?' If its a lot cheaper I would definitely look into it more. Something that includes those PSU and that 1TB SSD would be great.

comparable AMD system.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £963.24 (includes delivery: £12.60)

Still over the budget that you were looking to spend but it would be a fine PC

If you really need to save money to get within a certain budget then there is this alternative to the 3060.

Is over £100 cheaper , the 3060 is generally faster but not 25% faster and that is a sensible price for that product.

On the other side of the coin , if you do have more to spare then a 3060ti or a 6700xt will slot into the above PCs and do give significantly better performance.

Thank you so much Haz!!!

Even at £1,003 it is still cheaper than the Legion 5 (which is about £1,199) so that is still a win in my book and the AMD one is also even better price. I would go AMD I think, I usually have their Processor along with a geforce card.

Tetras - Thanks for the input, I will look into it when I find out how much wiggle room I have on final specific budget.

How are those processors/coolers like to fix? As I said I havent done this for a LONG time and those are the one I feel most iffy about.

Like Tetras says have a look on YT for a vid for whichever cooler you go for. They are generally easy enough to fit and once the chip is in the socket there is almost no chance of actually damaging it when intalling the cooler. Be very careful putting the chip into the socket and use the notches/triangle to help align it correctly but thats the only risky part of a build.

The OCUK prebuilt you linked in the OP saves money buy going for a cheap PSU like you mentioned but it is also a B450 mobo so you are making a sacrifice by only having pcie 3.0 so less options for upgrades in the future.
If it was my money to spend I would go for the Intel 12400f with 3060 and spend a lazy sunday afternoon building it. Building a PC has not really changed in the past decade with new fangled NVME M.2 SSDs being the only real addition and they are very easy to fit, YT vids on fitting those as well.

Ok you are now getting down to the nuts and bolts of choosing. Like has been mentioned above the 5600 is significantly better than the 5500 for not much more money and is most likely a better choice. I am not sure if either comes with a stock cooler , the boxes make it look like they do not , but if it did and you could use that if you needed to save the £20 difference.

Yes 5600 and 5500 will work in the same mobos so no issue there. I do not think the 5600 comes with a cooler so you will need to get one like listed below, not a high power useage chip so nothing extreme is needed.

Updated basket for your ease.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £996.24 (includes delivery: £12.60)

I do feel the 12400f build is a better option but the performance will be close to each other so is a genuine choice. If you do have more in your budget and gaming is your priority then stepping upto a 3060ti for £520 or a 6700xt for £500 is an option.

I believe the 5600 does come with a box cooler , overclockers are using a picture of a Ryzen 7 box .
