Advice on SDD and HDD

Recommend something bigger than 30Gig for your system drive. All the stuff that boots up with Windows (email, security suites, etc) will benefit from being on the SSD, and it will soon fill up as the installation matures (updates, etc). You need 20% free space on the SSD in order for the controller to do its stuff spreading the wear and tear, etc.

Given the amount of money you were considering on RAID systems in that previous thread you could look at the 80Gb Intel mainstream drive comfortably; even the 160Gb is within that reach. How you spend your storage budget depends on how much speedy storage you want/need. For normal PC use it's the operating system and related programs being sped up that sees the most benefit, with any spare capacity given over to your specific needs (quick loading game levels; screaming Photoshop' scratchdiscs'; etc).

Etc, etc. :D

Video editing and file conversion are the main reasons I'm looking for increased speed, but the PC gets used for a variety of tasks.

Cheers.
