ISP is talktalk and I think iam on the basic package with an extra download packaged 80GB.

Now when iam running sabnzbd+ my speed hits around 227.87 KB/s max. Crap I know. Now I normally set my speed to 125.00 KB/s so I can browse the net while downloading. Now as soon as I remove the limited speed that I set (125.00 KB/s) my download speed shoot up to well the highest has been just over 750.00 KB/s! This only lasts for about 1-2 seconds tho. :(

Just wondered if there is anything else I can do to try and speed up my connection?

Iam using a netgear dg834g plugged into the back plate of the master socket and Iam using wifi(speed doesnt improve cabled).

Would be great to increase my speed as atm is pretty poor.

Could be bell wire interference if you have an older socket....is the router plugged into the main socket? Also just because it leaps up to 750 for a few secs does not mean your line can handle that....the speed you get is supposed to be the max stable speed...so 750 could be the max speed but is unstable.

you been onto speedtester.bt.com seen what the results are?

The 750 KB/s spike is probably just the software miscalculating when the rate jumps after you remove the manual speed restriction.

If your plugging directly into the back plate of the master socket (bottom front removed and test socket exposed) then there shouldn’t be any extension bell wires to worry about.

What speed is your line actually rated at?

If you post the line stats from the router someone will probably calculate what speed you should be expecting.

Iam living in a new build flat, not my master-socket but mine is exactly the same as this one

speedtester.bt.com isnt working for me at the min. Not too sure what my service ID is?

Here are a few tests below, all done over wifi...

Attenuation is a bit high for a ~2mile line but your line length could potentially be closer to 3 miles - checking bell wire/internal wiring would be a good idea.

Your not realistically going to get any higher speed with that attenuation and SNR tho its bang on 6db as it is - you could tweak the SNR target with DGTeam firmware to get slightly over 2Mbit and get another 500kbit or so of useable speed but with that attenuation it would probably be very unstable.

So just over 200KB/s is about as fast as your going to go with that profile.

Ah right, when I looked at trouble-shooting this before I remember using the talk talk forum and the mods on there saying about various profiles.

Do you know if they can be changed?

A lower target noise margin (currently the standard 6dB) could increase your speeds a bit, but as mentioned above this would probably make the connection unstable. TalkTalk may be willing to allow you to try this, you'd need to ask them.

Cable not an option where you are? When I lived in Portsmouth (Southsea) we had Nynex cable which presumably became part of Virgin.

as said that's about your lot regarding speed at the moment...check bell wire it might make a small difference. BTW TalkTalk aren't regarded as being a good isp for speed or customer service, you may get better elsewhere but it will cost you more
