I have an OCZ Summit Series drive, with the old firmware that does not support the TRIM function.

OCZ have now released the necessary firmware but before I start fiddling about with it, because I can't really be arsed at the moment, I would like to know the following..

If i decide not to do it now and wait another year, will it affect the performance of the drive once TRIM has been enabled and allowed to do its thing? i.e. Does it matter how long the drive is left without TRIM enabled?

trim helps with a number of things, basically it allows the SSD to manage what files and data has been removed by the OS.
So it can then clean up the drive, but also reduce the amount of writes that happen to increase the lifespam.

the drive will most likly start to slow down after using it a lot without TRIM.

y would you want to wait a year before updating the firmware on the drive thou ?

I checked the release notes and it formats the drive when updating the firmware.

My question was does it matter how long I wait in terms of the end result once complete? The performance is still good at the moment so I am not too fussed right now.
