Respawning...
Just went into town to get some money out for my driving lesson tomorrow. Low and behold I cannot take any money out. Tried a few machines and came home. Check my account balance on line and overnight £198.47 is missing from my account. I am shocked, i have no idea on what to do except go down to the bank. I have not spent it so I guess it has been taken :/ really worried about this

Go to the bank, get a statement and explain the situation, they'll be able to help a lot more than anyone on a forum i guess.

I bank with barclays. My online statement has a transaction from today which I made sunday for £10 phone credit. Then nothing. £200 odd missing. Phone lines are closed.

There will be a lost and stolen number on the back of your card.

Is it missing from the balance, or the available balance?

The reason I ask is that either something happened previously that you've not noticed, or there's an authorisation on your account which might not be legit.

Did you ring them? There will 100% be a 24/7 number for incidents like this.

Found it for you - 0845 600 2323 but they're only open until 11pm so get a move on.

Fraud
To contact us if you believe your account has been fraudulently used 0845 7555 555 Talk to an adviser Monday to Sunday 7am-11pm

ring that if you're really worried

Barclays do have a 24 hour number, I work in the office next to one of the call centres. Call the lost and stolen line on 0870 010 4503 (open 24/7) and have them look at any outstanding transactions and block the card, then call back tomorrow on the same number (after 7am) and choose option 2 for other queries, then option 1 for a suspect card payments. In all likelihood they will have the money back into your account within a few hours and set up an investigation.

This of course assumes it is fraud.

Edit: I should say that I work for the Barclays claims team in Coventry. If you want to check the validity of that number you can do it on the Baclays site.

I called them, got through to an indian call centre. She told me transactions had been made and that was it. Ill have to go in tomorrow to my local branch and sort it out. Now I am going to have to stop my driving lessons for this.

The number I posted is for a UK based office. If you call them they will be able to tell you what has gone where. If it's not genuine you'll need to call again between 7am and 11pm so they can refund you. If you can call before 10am and it is fraud then the money will most likely be in your account with the first batch of refunds at 10:30. No need to go into the branch.

I work in the same building as that call centre, just across the hall. There's actually a slim chance (1/20 or so) that I'll be the one handling you case when the call centre staff get it set up.

I'm with LLoyds, had close to £900 taken on my credit card, which is only used on here, Amazon, Steam and Paypal, all of which remember my details and have done for over a year. Card was never stolen, and in fact was kept sellotaped to the underside of a drawer (along with 7 fake passports, 3 pistols, 1 sniper, 3 assault rifles and 50 grenades :D). How anyone got the details for my card is beyond me, the only leak I know of is Steam but considering the level of encryption on that database, and the fact the news hasn't reported 1million people have been ripped off leads me to believe it wasn't the source.

I rang the 24/7 number off the card, had the account frozen instantly. Next day got a call, new card (which is technically a new account with a visa) and my money returned.
