Advice on what do next

As long as it says above 2272kbps it'll be alright. You'd need to increase it a little more to get to 2500kbps.

If you reconnected it definitely shouldn't have been with an 18dB downstream SNR margin.

Noise margin (Down/Up) 18.4 dB / 22.0 dB

Too high, and well above any setting BTw would use to make your connection more stable. Reconnecting should have reduced that.

You could probably squeeze onto the 2500kbps profile if you got them to reset you back to the 6dB target.

Noise margin (Down/Up) 11.8 dB / 22.0 dB

6dB is the default; you're at double that. If you got BT to reset the target SNR margin (i.e. what the modem aims for when it's connecting) you'd get a faster connection...

Ok so my sync rate has dropped to 1,536 Kbps but they have updated my IP profile to 1,250Kbps and my actual speed test result is 1048Kbps so its definetly and improvement. Im happier with that speed than before but do you think it could improve anymore? Also now that I have seen my sync rate at around 2,500 Kbps should I be satisfied or see if I can get some more speed?

My SNR has risen since taking another ring wire out from 12dB to 20.2dB do I want it lower or higher?

Noise margin (Down/Up) 20.2 dB / 22.0 dB

Provided it's stable, you want your SNR margin to be as close as possible to the target (which in your case is probably 12dB).
If you reconnect, your sync rate will likely jump up again.

A higher SNR = a higher sync speed. Removing the ring wires is generally a good way of increasing it :)

Your line should be capable of around 3MB so it could definitely improve more. You need to find out why your sync rate dropped back down to 1,536 Kbps, something isn't right.

Is your router still plugged into the master socket?
Could you reconnect and post your new stats.

This makes no sense at all, as i leave my router on the sync rate slowly falls over time to around a minimum of 1,500Kbps, also the SNR down increases from 12dB to 18-20dB. As soon as i reset my router it returns to the default 12dB with a sync rate of 2,500Kbps, why is it doing that

And here are the new line stats:

Line state Connected
Connection time 0 days, 0:12:44
Downstream 2,400 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps

ADSL settings

VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 12.3 dB / 21.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 47.0 dB / 31.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 18.2 dBm / 11.9 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local) 0
Loss of Signal (Local) 0
Loss of Power (Local) 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 33 / 0
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 0 / 2147480000
HEC Errors (Down/Up) nil / 0
Error Seconds (Local) 0

If i ask them tommorow will they have a clue what Im on about, I mean the customer service people in Mumbai? Why would over a period of time my SNR increase and my sync decrease?

There's only one way to find out. :D
If they don't know what you're talking about then ask to speak to somebody who does.

Why would over a period of time my SNR increase and my sync decrease?

I could be wrong but I think an increase in the SNR margin usually occurs if your connection becomes unstable and keeps disconnecting frequently; BT's system would see that and increase the SNR margin to try and make your line more stable.

Do you know if your connection has been disconnecting frequently?
You might have a fault on your line causing it to increase the SNR margin.

Try plugging a corded phone into the test socket (which is located behind the face plate of your master socket, see here) and dial 17070; choose the quiet line test (option 2 I think) and listen for any buzzing, crackling, popping, etc.

You could try getting your ISP to reset the SNR margin but if you do have a fault on your line then it'll simply increase the SNR margin again.
Ideally you want the SNR margin to be around 6db, then you'll be connected at over 3MB.

What router are you using?

Im using the Bt Homehub 2.0 i think, my sync is now at 2,400Kbps with a download of 1,800Kbps so the sync hasnt dropped over night. The broadband sign does very rarely turn orange for a few seconds before correcting itself. GSdog i will try that test with the phone a bit later and post back the results. Thanks for the continued help by the way.

My line keeps going out, the broadband light goes out for about 10 seconds then it turns back on. This has happend twice tonight and it lowers my sync speed to 1,500Kbps, is this a line error do i need to ring BT about the actual line first?

Have you tried the quiet line test yet?

It does sound like a fault on the line. Phone BT and tell them and they should be able to do some tests or send out an engineer if necessary.

I did the quiet line test, no crackling or popping whatsoever. Things have also taken a turn for the worst, sync 864 Kbps SNR is still 12dB though. My actual download speed is now 500Kbps.

Wow the BT engineers were helpful  So they came around did the quiet line test and then told me nothing was wrong and that 500Kbps was the fastest speed I could get even though the sync was clearly at 2,800Kbps. Anyway they did say they would be sending me a new router in case that was the problem, I think that has to be my last resort, how likely is it that the router is the issue considering my problems?

I havent been paying much attention to my connection until today, the sync speed seems steady at 1,200Kbps but when i do a speed test the results are really erratic. I mean the speed drops from 1000Kbps to 200Kbps then back up, its really annoying, there really isnt much point calling BT as they will just send engineers who know nothing and therefore don't help at all. Still waiting for my new router from them, I rang up to ask about it and got sent around 10 different departments so i just gave up. What can i ask BT to do, surely this service isnt acceptable?
