I'm looking to build a new main rig and want to go Intel DualCore.. Whats the best advice for what cpu and mobo to buy ?

Thanks

Asus or Dfi with nForce4.
The Asus P5N32 SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 with heatpipe cooling is good.
Why do you want Intel?
If its because the dual cores are cheap, then the price of that Asus board will probably be too high for you.
If its for any other reason, then you probably want to look at Amd.

Don't mind paying a bit extra for a good board. It's non gaming, and ideally looking to get a cheap dualcore and overclock it. Saw someone selling a 2.6 dualcore that did 3.8 !

Ideally looking for advice from someone who is overclocking a dualcore to 3.6 area...

Thanks

I have the 805 (2.6ghz dual core) running at 3.65ghz.

Dont waste your money on one the stupidley expensive 32 lane boards, you won't need it. I am using an Asus P5ND2-SLi Deluxe that I got from B Grade for £35.

I was under the impression that NF4 was a stinker on Intel?

It can clock upto 220FSB and doesnt support the 820.

I havent seen an 805 that will do a 220FSB yet (at least not on air) and it isnt the 820 so who cares :p

From my limited experiance, if its intel you want to go for, make it the 900 series (just learnt this) because the 900 series is based on 65nm tech which runs cooler than the 800 series based on the prescott core.

I've currently got my Pentium D 930 (3.0GHz stock) running very nice and stablely on an Asus P5WD2 Premium at 4.05GHz with a load temperature of around 45C

best bet for max overclocks at decent price is the Asus P5WD2 955 chipset mobo.

running my 805 at 3.86 rock stable 24/7 on watercooling with the above mobo.

Guessing that if you find a nforce4 cheaper then go for it using that chip, as the only thing you want is a mobo being capable of reaching up to 200fsb on that cpu and nforce4 can handle that much for sure :D

If you go with a 9x0 series then you will need some serious fsb's hence a 945/955/975 chipset based mobo is recommended ONLY.

I have a Abit AL8 running a P4 Dual Core "Smithfield" 2.6 @ 3.7ghz Folding stable (i.e. 100% on both cores 24/7).

Abit LG-81.

Nforce 4 is a bit of a stinker for Intel imo, poor stability compared and memory bandwidth isn't as good.
Just curious, i thought via chipsets don't have locks and intel chipsets don't allow overclocking, whats left?

Intel chips do allow overclocks and are the better choice if you don't want SLi but they generally cost more.
