Advice on work issue.

Your an apprentice, be careful as there are many other people who would do your role. If it was me id talk to your line manager about your concerns. If nothing is done then speak to you course leader. There is the right way of going about this and the wrong way, you sound like a stubborn teenager who isnt getting their own way. I can imaging School IT is not where you want to spend all your working life, so gain experience get your qualifications and move on.

Most of IT is like this at the moment. Employers like to see how many roles they can give you before you crack. Unfortunately apprentices get this more than most.

There seems to be a rise in these so called 'apprentice' roles. It smells of an excuse to employ young people for peanuts and get away with it.
Exactly my thought when I read the OP. Even apprenticeships should pay minimum wage IMO.

OP, does the apprenticeship have a timescale where at the end that wages become normal?

i think its something im just going to have get on with. so ill just get on with it.
and it supposed to be increased at the end of the first year (im nearing the end of my first year at the beginning of next month) but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

ive informed my college, just to put aside the worry i have about not being able to provide sufficient evidence and ill see what they say about it.

im not due to finish the apprenticeship till October 2015 as its a Level 3

I'm generally on the side of employees rights, but I don't quite agree with this (though £2.68 is probably a bit low).

An apprentice is still learning the job, needs support and training - day release at college which is paid for by the employer etc etc, thus isn't bringing the same skill set as a full employee on min wage who should know the basics already.

And generally they are quite young, living at home and don't have the same financial responsibilities/commitments.

Saying that we have just taken on a 24 y/o apprentice, and even though he is still living at home, it does seem rough to be earning £2.68 an hour.

Post on Edugeek, I expect someone on there will have a better idea. Also do you have a job description and a contract.

I would also join one of the unions. GMB, The Voice & Unison all look after educational support staff. You will probably have a rep for one of these on site. If the fees are too much mention it (they will probably offer you a reduction since you're an apprentice).

My own view is since you're an apprentice it's unreasonable for them to expect you to do substantial amounts of works that have no relevance to your training.
