Hi
I have taken the plunge and gone for a SAMSUNG SPINPOINT 1tb.
The reviews have swayed my decision but need advice on following.

I have 2 3/4 year old raptors in stripe "0" with my OS sat on it.
Many reviews have stated that SAMSUNG beats the old raptors hands down.
Bench marks I have seen put it near the top of the league even with the new vekociratpros.

I was initially getting the disk as a ESATA back up device - however thinking about it COULD? replacing the WDS with the SAMSUNG be a better option all round. What do you think - will it be better? I KNOW it will be quieter - sick of that gargling.

Also if you all agree - is there a way to convert the stripe 0 onto the new drive as a normal stand alone drive. Some of converter - thanks a lot for your time - looking forward to the answer

I would certainly use the F1 over the raptors just for the noise benefit, as far as speed goes, well I think there wont be anything in it, nothing you will notice anyway.

As always a new drive is a great opportunity for a fresh start so I personaly wouldnt bother trying to convert the raid array over....just transfer what you need.

I went from two 150GB raptors to two Samsung F1s and there is not any noticable change, except for the noise. You will definately need two F1s to compete with two raptors though.

Acronis True Image will transfer your OS across, and resize the partition for you all in one.

transfir speeds then F1's, for seeking data and small transfires then the raptors will win hands down due to higher spindel speeds

Thanks guys - seems like the choice is clear

seems like an upheavel to swap out the raptors for next to no difference

will have to live with the grinding but nevermind.
Got 1 spinpoint for my data drive and its going ok so far.
Seem like well built drives.

Well I decided to give this a shot - 2 x 1tb Spinpoints in raid 0 because in esata i was getting annoying stuttering when turning it on.
I used HDtach And HDtune to test and the average read speeds completely wipe the floor with the raptors in "0". It seems to feel smoother more fluid and ofcourse no more BURPING from the dinasours in my computer.
Glad I tried it. Only down side is 2 1tb's in the risky raid 0 array.
Oh well think i ' might get some more of these for another raid 1 set for special data.
