Hi all,

I fear it is time to upgrade again (groan) and my last two systems have been specced by the good guys here on the forum.

My current main pc is getting very slow

mobo is an Asus A8N - SLI Premium
cpu is an early dual core x86 Family 15 Model 35 AMD ~2211Mhz (AMD?)
2GB Ram
video card GeForce8600GT 256mb

I have 4 x hard drives and the boot drive was a WD Raptor 150GB but that died a month or so ago and I replace with a Samsung Spinpoint and certainly noticed a drop in speed.

I need a spec for fast work pc with photoshop and occaisonal video encodiing.

I would like a fast boot time if possible and am unsure whether to use Win 7 or 8?

Now comes the slight problem that has held me back from upgrading (along with all the hassle of moving software!)

This PC is based at home and I have another based at work.

I still use Eudora for POP based email.

I have the email files on a pull out IDE based drive caddy that I remove from the home pc and slot in to the work pc every day and vice versa when I return home.

I still need a solution to keep this going or a good alternative. I am guessing I may have to replace the work pc as well ?

I have looked at several ready built systems in the £400 - £600 price range but feel the self assembled pc's are always better ?

So, as always , any advice appreciated

Thanks,

Pop

Included a flash drive for your email/data.
I have no experience on photo and video editing, so not to sure how much benefit the card will be with the software you will be using, although it should be better than your current card.
Also, I assume you have an OS you can reuse. You could also forgo the ssd and get an i5 instead. SSD can always be added later.
