I need to put new tyres on my car for the MOT (just a boring A-Class Merc diesel) and wonder if it's worth fitting winter tyres to take me through the winter months. I drive for work all day every day so it's an important decision....

I've never used winter tyres before - anyone any experience? Also, can anyone recommend any good brands?

Thanks guys...

Surely it's only worth it if you live and work far far up north where they still get a proper winter, if you do then it could be a good idea.

Why not just get all weather tyres?

I have summer tyres throughout the year even on older powerful RWD cars, it's never been a problem, even in light snow.

IIRC Vredestein make M+S tyres, I thin us in the UK are one of the few EU coutries that don't change our tyres for winter. I heard that it's law in some EU countries, also they must have 4mm tread, well, according to taxi driver last year in Prague.
