Ok im building a new pc very soon , I don't need a whole new computer , such as i want to keep my current monitor , case and peripherals...

I have around £1000 to play with maybe £1100 if its going to make a big difference, and of course if its less than £1000 then great :)

I mainly play games , not worried about a big hard drive but just want a really fast gaming machine

Here is what i come up with....

If anyone would recommend some other brand/item then please say why

Thanks for the advice in adavance everyone

Ok, was going to say the gfx might be a bit ott for 1280, but nevermind!

I dont know much about intel rigs but id maybe suggest a different mobo? Never really heard of anyone using that one

the only reason i said that one is that toms hardware did a review of several a while ago and it come out on top but then again they could tell me anything :P

Well an 8800 gtx is overkill for 1600-1200
Nobody seems to have the intel 975x boards i wonder why
Raptor is a noisey bugger Better off with a seagate barracuda or 2 in raid 0
The corsair isnt the best ram for the £130 tag.
You can get just as good a rig for less.
If you swapped the 8800gtx for an 8800 gts you could get much better ram
and then some.

My own personal choice would be
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
(£270.24)
Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£135.11)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
(£55.21)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail Intel
(£146.86)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
(£99.86)
Ocz gold edition pc 8000 1100mhz x 1 gb stick x2= roughly £170

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (£35.24)
In my eclipse case.
TOTAL=£912.89 inc VAT
And spend the £87.11 change on beer.
The 965p 650i and 680i are the boards to go for
I'd seriously have a good long read up and research before taking the plunge mate.

I think Melbourne's is the best spec suggested so far. Offers a very good overclocking ability with the GeIL, Asus motherboard and CPU cooler. I also think that the PSU you have suggested is sufficient to power all the hardware suggested - 620W would probably be overkill.

Madwestmo: will you be upgrading from CRT? Depending on what you plan to do with regards to monitor, if its anything around 19"-22" I would probably opt for a 320MB/640MB 8800.

i plan on keeping the monitor , it looks nice and has nice refresh rates

i dont plan on doing any major overclocking but some , want a nice stable pc and pref. quiet as possible

regards to raptor hdd would there be any noticeable difference in loading times for windows/games

thanks for the help so far

Also i wanted the bigger PSU just in case i decide to stick another GFX card in there , so also the mobo would need to support this

If you get a big CPU cooler, it can run quieter than a smaller (or stock) one.

Some, but not worth the extra expense/noise IMHO over Seagate, Samsung or Hitachi drives.

Go for the 620W version then :)

In the 8800 range - BFG are the popular ones because they offer lifetime warranty. All the boards are the same the manufacturers just put on their own cooler/stickers. eVGA have a nice range, they do a silent model too (comes at a price though).

Why is everyone recommending the geil ram surely a better purchase is
pc8000 + ram so you dont have to upgrade a year down the line or does the geil do 1100 mhz +?I'm pretty sure ballistix does 1000 mhz.

Decent setup that, much better although I might add - going for C4 rather than C5 in the GeIL will help considerably if you are gaming, the tighter timings etc. If you can afford it the C4 is better than the value stuff you have there in the picture!
