Advice please

Ok so I know this is a little stupid but here goes.

I recently got a new flat (rented), went around for a viewing about three weeks ago where they had just finished renovating the kitchen which is really nice. I was told that the whole flat would be brought up to the same standard. I have been working away from Bristol (home) all week every week since christmas. I just managed to get back and sign last Friday, moved in over the weekend only to find that the place is a dump and non of the work has been performed. Where do i stand? I would want to just walk away to be honest, more than a little ****ed off! Its not the end of the world as only 6 month tenency but still......

Oh and clever me, didnt get anything in writing regarding the rennovations I have paid deposit, agency fee and first months rent.

What was this "renovation work" actually going to involve other than a renovated kitchen mentioned?
and what do you mean by that? Paint on the walls and new doors or what
