hey all, this is my first post on here and probably a stupid question. I just got a new desktop and i have the gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Motherboard with 8GB patriot ram think its 1600mhz my motherboard specs has Support for DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules. Does this mean that i can't put ram in that is faster than 1600mhz?
cheers Andy

you can use 1600mhz and above upto 2600mhz+

thats just the defualt speeds for memory,it will run memory higher than 1600mhz

im running 2133mhz memory on a gigabyte up4 th

so just for knowledge purposes if i installed another 8 gb of ram say 2000mhz + along with my 1600mhz ram i already have. Am i right to think that the speed would be capped by the slower ram?

yeah, its best to buy matching ram or atleast the same speed/timings

tbh you only need 8gb,unless you do a huge amount of video editing/encoding ect
