Hi

I need to order a card tonight/tomorrow as I need it for Friday.

It will be used for gaming at 1080p, I got an i7 920 @ 4ghz on the cheap so it will be used with that, psu is Antec High Current Gamer M 620W.

Budget up to £450

I was looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 680 Power Edition that's on offer just now.

Any ideas please?

With that kind of budget you might as well want to increase it a bit and go for a 780 or if you aren't fond of doing that a 770/680 seems like the path you could take. Won't say anything about AMD cards due to fact that I'm currently having some problems with the one I recently bough.

I'd like a 780 but cant justify the expense, maybe I'll buy one of the 280x that's in stock

I can personally vouch for the 680 PE. Brilliant card, can easily be flashed to a fully fledged MSI 680 Lightning which will give you GTX 770 performance.

Another bonus with the MSI offering is they're incredibly quiet, even under load. I can honestly say that it's barely audible when playing games.

If you are looking at spending that much then i would recommend the 7990 which is slightly over budget at £500 but it will be much better than anything else suggested in this thread.

what's the point of spending £500 on HD7990, when OP's playing on 1080p?

Well if he is gaming on a 120hz or 144hz monitor then there are plenty of games that wont get anywhere near 120FPS/144FPS on a 7970, 7950, 280X, 680, and 780.

I went from a 7970 to a 7990 on 1080p and would definitely recommend it.

Tomb Raider (2013) and BF3/4 are a great examples of games that needs lots of power. I am also sure that GTA V will be demanding as hell when that gets released too!

Look around and get 2 7970s in crossfire. Your budget should be enough for both of these cards considering the AMD HD 7xxx series cleareance sales.
