Hi everyone,

I think its time i changed camera system. I bought a Samsung GX-10 a couple of years ago on the advice from a friend. This has been a great camera for me as a beginner however now i'm thinking of branching out from the kit lenses (really fancy a macro and also a 50) I have started to realise that the Samsung/Pentax system might not be the best thing to stick with long term.

Rather than start to invest in additional pentax lenses now, I was thinking it might be best to cut my losses, flog the GX-10 and pick up a Canon or Nikon as this would probably leave me better off for the future. What do you think, would it be worth picking up something like a D90 now? Any ideas how much the GX-10 (with 18-55 and 50-200 lenses, UV / circ. pol. filters etc) would be worth?

I'm with the Nikon system (D300 and Sigma 18-50 F2.8 amongst others) but there's no reason to change your body at all, the GX-10 is a superb camera and I think you'd have to go to the D300 or 50D to really surpass it, your problem is lacklustre glass, if you bought a Sigma 18-50 F2.8 or the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 or the Tokina 16-50 F2.8 or even the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4.5 you would get a new lease of life from your Samsung, ally that with a Metz or Sigma compatible flashgun and maybe a short, fast zoom like the Sigma 50-150 F2.8 or the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 and you'd have a full "Pro spec" system.
Sure, if you want to change, the D90 is a cracker but the above advice about glass that's better than the kit stuff goes for that too....

I would suggest sticking with the camera and getting some more lenses. I can't recommend any, but I think that camera will take K-mount lenses so there are literally hundreds of all sorts to choose from and a lot at modest prices..

To get a whole new camera system won't put you any further forward, and the money saved (a few hundred pound..) could buy you either some really nice glass, or a bunch of interesting lenses second hand etc etc. I considered buying that camera the other day but couldn't find a good enough deal.

And any lenses you buy you should be able to re sell in the future without incurring a loss. (good) lenses don't tend to depreciate.
