Hey All,

I recently won some cash with bonds, and i'm putting some of it to a new rig (also taking my mum+dad on holiday), seeing as my current one is around 5 years old and while still cool, it has a lot of trouble with newer games lol.

Here's what i've got so far:

The problem is i only planned originally to spend £1300-£1400 maximum, and I can't think of how to drop the price down. I definately want i7, since this pc will last around 4-5 years more, and it should be able to withstand the test of time, although occasionally i might add a new graphics card or similar.

The Cpu cooler im not 100% sure about, but i'll leave that to you, and I would love the antec 900-2 case. I originally planned to get a new kb and mouse but seeing as the budget is already stretched (had planned on roccat kone) i thought best to leave it out.

I've never played a game on 1920x1080 resolution so i'm very keen on that, unless extremely out of the question i'd love to keep the samsung moniter (unless you can find better for less! ;))

Any suggestions/help would be welcome!

Thanks

You could drop the motherboard to the Gigabyte UD4 or UD4P also drop the raptor.

Edit: Change the chip to the D0 version for a few extra £'s

Not a bad spec although I would be tempted to get a slightly cheaper mainboard, maybe the P6T deluxe, this will overclock just as well and save you a bit of cash to invest in 6Gb of memory instead of the 3Gb you have listed. I'd perhaps also look into spending a bit more on the monitor and get a 24"?

Gfx card, the OC2 is same price as the OC
mobo this is one of the best
CPU new D0 stepping
monitor 1" smaller but same res
HDD just ditch the velociraptor these are still pretty quick drives
psu if you can wait til it comes back in stock get this, else the zalman 750W which is only £10 more
RAM slightly cheaper on TWO and twice as much
cooler I like the noctua personally but the v8 is good also
no need for cheap sound card, onboard will do, save up for a decent card if you want to

I would go with 95thrifles's spec, but with a 4870X2 instead of the GTX285.

I also might go with the Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler as well (looks so cool), instead of the Noctua.

EDIT: Add an Asus Xonar D2 sound card to that spec as well.

thanks for ALL the awesome replies guys.

for the Ati instread of Nvidia, I've always been an nvidia fanboy lol, and i don't think i'm going to change soon. I'm not a serious gamer, just a game now and then, but all the small nags and freezeups and whatnot just annoy me lol. I've always wanted to play a game perfectly in super high definition. In regards to the CPU cooler, i'd ofc love the best performing one, but in the antec 900-2 with the blue Led's and all, would the white noctua look a bit wierd? other than that seems awesome, ty again

By no means the worst like you claim. Only a couple of degrees between the Noctua and the V8. In looks though, there is no comparison.

Drop the second 275 from Duran's build - you'll only get a few frames extra for now and it'll bring you down to that £1400 you were looking for at the start.

Or just stick with 95th rifles which is practically the same spec at that price and you don't have to faff with watercooling.

Duran's right it's more effective, but I still doubt it's easier to set up unless you have some experience with WC.

actually its like a high end air cooler. everything is pre installed so you just pop it in after installing the backplate. its tested for leaks before it leaves the factory. furthermore, i wouldnt call 80% increase "a few frames extra" especially for 1920x1200 resolution. the big difference is that the setup i suggested will easily push 4-5 years without any upgrades. cant say that for any other setup in this thread...

less than £200 more for a superior case with plenty of space, SLI, 24" monitor and water cooling? its a no brainer.

awesome, thanks for the replies. I've never tried water cooling before, so does the WCing system come with all the required things for like, the gpu's and all?

i would be eager to give it a try, especially with the 2 gtx 275's.

If thats the final spec more or less, ill wait another month or so for that extra £200.

cheers duran, and the rest of you =)

EDIT: just realised it's only for CPU which is actually a relief because i'd never want to take my gpu's apart anyway lol.

would you recommened i use the provided fluid, or get some Feser One?
