Advice

I purchased this card, hope its ok.

GECUBE X1950Pro 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI TVO PCI-E Graphics Card

Any comments?

Now I'll have to wait until tomorrow to finish the build.

Regards.

That card's fine. It'll actually run games pretty well as well if you actually plan to at some point. Ok it's not quite as good as the newer gen graphics cards, but it's great value for the price. I don't think you could have picked a better one tbh :)

Thanks M8, ive installed all the bits into my case now I wait for the graphics card to arrive tomorow.

regards.

No problem :)

And well there are a few new generation cards, not all of them are that good. They consist of the nVidia 8 series and the Ati HD series, although there are lots of different cards within each series so you have to spend a while looking around until you find one you want. If you do game a bit though get a high end card because the lower end ones these days aren't really that great for anythin apart from browsing the net and word processing lol.

Your 1950 should be at least as good as an nVidia 8600 or an Ati 2400 (maybe a 2600, not sure), as a comparison.

Thanks M8, I hope the gear I've choosen look up to expectation and I'll let you know how it all goes.

Regards.

No problem mate, and yeah I look forward to findin out if it all works out ok. Should be pretty damn fast actually with that setup. In fact I doubt you'll be able to find much stuff that slows it down (apart from crysis and maybe call of juarez, but they slow down pretty much every other computer anyway lol).

Well I received the graphics card and by god its large, in fact its HUGE had to rearrange a few things to get it to fit.

Anyway, installing XP not a reinstall but overwriting and using my old system files etc.

Had a few problems on the way no boot and using the wrong drive to reinstall XP ;) but as I write Im installing so fingers crossed.

I did also purchase Vista Premium OEM if I decide to go that direction but I'll soon find out and post back.

Regards.

Well just finished the XP install and by god its fast. So now a question for anyone.........

Do I stay with XP or install my Vista Premium OEM?

Comments.

What a nightmare, the system does not like my IDE controler card and the PC kept on shutting down so I removed the CPU and cleaned and used Arctic Silver, so far its been ok............ fingers crossed.

I will see what XP is like then give Vista a go but I wonder if my OEM version will allow me to upgrade from XP............. anyone!

Regards.

Regarding the IDE controler card when I installed that the system kepy asking for raid info etc.

I dont waht it for raid, just so I can use 2 aditional IDE devices thats all.

Anyone knows why its saying its for raid?

Regards

Found out wht the system keeps on failing, I've a dodgy stick of ram.

If I just insert the working stick the system boots fine. If I insert the knackered stick it will not boot, but if I insert the working stick in the 1st slot and the knockered in the 2nd the system boots but crashes.

So it looks like a RMA for me :(

Crap.

poop :( i'm sorry that you had to be one of those unlucky who get their goods faulty right out of the box. at least you've got peace of mind knowing that you'll be able to RMA anythint hat goes wrong. So do you think you were having problems with that IDE controller because of that faulty RAM?

Ummm I dont think so, why when its installed the system then says to setup raid I dont know.

Perhapse I should turn something off, will look at it again.

Regarding the RAM, I might order some more tomorrow and get a refund on the faulty set, that way I get the ram nextday and dont have to wait.

Regards.

Not my day.

Just installed Vista and now I found out there is no driver for the card I purchased Gecube X1950pro 512.

I can see sending that back as well.
