......I can't make my mind up. That CPU may be overkill for what I need. On my PC I arrange and edit a lot of photos, develop my (simple) web site, edit videos, surf and play some flight sim and age of empires. I might like to play Command and Conquer perhaps. I am running Vista Utimate.

Would a E6300 be enough for my needs with 2Gig of RAM and perhaps a 320Meg 8800? I would like to get the Dell 2407 soon as well because I like big monitors.

I was going to get a Q6600 with a P35 and 4 gig with a 8800GTS 640M. However, I am not sure I need all that power. Sure I have the money but it doesn't grow on trees and I could use the savings from the lesser spec elsewhere.

Should I perhaps get a MB that could be upgraded to the Q6600 later ? Perhaps get a 1333 vapable M/B? Still canlt resist the urge toget the higher spec though !!! Advise me please !!!!

Thanks for any suggestions,

Steve

Before the drops getting a quad core based system would have cost the earth.

You can now get a quad based system for the same outlay as a dual core system a few weeks back.

What are you waiting for.

175 quid for a Q6600 is fantastic.

4gig of ram is not needed now.

Get 2 GIG for now and upgrade the ram when you need too.

Talked me into it

OK,
So if I get 1 Q6600 and the GA_P35_DSR3 m/b what memory shopuld I use to make the most of that CPU?

Thanks, Steve

I've actually had remarkably good results with the OcUK branded RAM, mines running at DDR912 from its default of 800.

6400 RAM is a good middle ground. It is reasonably priced, there is lots of choice, and most CPUs will be at or close to their maximum when they have 400MHz FSB, and hence in sync with 6400 RAM.

Sorry if I am wrong but with the heat these give on stock I dont think 3.6 is safe on Air.

It was an example to show the meaning behind getting 6400 DDR2.

I mention nothing about cooling and running 3.6ghz on air.

And made no statement that this would be possible.

Purely the thinking behind the equation. :)
