hi guys

I am looking at building a good gaming rig
It doesn't have to be "the best" but futureproof enough that I shouldn't have to make any modifications within the next 2 years or so and gives me the room and freedom to overclock the CPU/GPU up to its pottential

Please let me know what you think of the following build and any advise on any obvious errors (such as a case that isnt big enough for the mobo, a mobo that isnt workable with the gpu/cpu i have or possibly a PSU that isnt sturdy enough to handle the power i need)

What do you think?

Also - is there any saving I could make on this build to bring my cost down?

;) Thank you Idleman but this puts me £50 over my suggested basket

Is going with a HIS card better than the branded Saphire?
Is the Z77 mobo worth it over the Z68 suggested?
What extra benefit is there with the PSU over the one I already had down?

Was looking at getting something a bit cheaper to be honest ;)

I don't suppose there is a chance at getting this build down to £600 at all without sacrificing the GPU (and dropping it to the next tier down)?

Not sure on the graphics card, personally I prefer dual fan editions

The Z77 motherboard has garunteed support with Ivybridge processors.

The PSU you have chosen is horribly un reliable and will not provide the power required

You don't really need the retail version.

Since CPU's rarely fail after the first 12 months and if it does fail and its down to the user they wont replace anyway.

And if it fails at 13 months and it isn't the users fault?

i personally wouldn't take the risk. but its down to the individual tbh.

CPU's are usually reliable however you know the one time you happen to buy OEM... something will happen :D

Fair enough. The £20 you can save can go towards a after market cooler though which will be quieter and more stable on overclocking.

OEM over Retail is fine for me

I can't see myself needing to worry about the 13+ months, if it fails it will most likely fail due to overheating, since i plan to overclock and that isnt covered under warranty (regardless of it being unlocked or not) then OEM is fine

I appreciate the help, getting the build to £620 including delivery is a big plus and I havent had to scrimp too much on the build especially the GPU

Now to get some pennies together!

well if you dont shout about that your chip burned due to overclocking it will be replaced...

Thank you for all the help so far, best I have come up with on my own (considering that the difference between a 7850 and 7870 is my only worry) is as follows

Build

CPU : Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM : £167.99
GPU : HIS HD 7870 IceQ 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H787Q2G2M) w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showdown PC Games : £191.99
MOBO : Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard : £84.98
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) : £63.98
PSU : OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply : £49.99
CASE : Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black : £34.99
H/SINK : Thermalright True Spirit 120 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/AM2/AM3/FM1) : £24.98
RAM : Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) : £23.99
OPTICAL : Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM : £13.99

Total (including delivery) : £671.89

I reckon this to be the best build I can go for unless I decide to go down to the 7850 and knock off a good £50, aside from that i don't think I can skrimp much more, what do you think?
