Hi, my first post and thanks for having me, I wonder if you can advise me on upgrading to Windows 11, I don’t do Gaming and PC is just for home use, I do want something that is above average in performance, this PC runs ok on Windows 10 but sometimes can be sluggish [Memory is at 84% at moment]

Here are some details of my PC: -

The bad [Taken from PC Health Check: -

The processor isn’t currently Supported for windows 11 [AMD FX [tm] – 6300 Six core Processor 3.50 GHz]

This PC must support secure boot

TPM 2.0 must be supported and enabled on this PC. [TPM not detected]

The Good [I Have]: -

Windows 10 Home

Windows is activated with a Digital Licence linked to your Microsoft Account

Name: Windows [R], Core Edition

Description: Windows [R] Operating System, RETAIL Channel

Partial Product Key; ****

Licence Status: Licensed

Installed RAM 4.00 GB Speed 1600 MHZ

Processor AMD FX [tm] – 6300 Six core Processor 3.50 GHz

Graphics card 509 MB ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics

Storage 745 GB

My options
: -

As things need upgrading for windows 11 and PC is old, I was thinking my best option is to have a custom-built PC made, now am I correct in thinking the best option is to; -

1. I need to Create Windows 10 Installation Media onto a USB Stick?

2. As I already have a Retail licence, I just need to Have a custom-made PC built Without windows installed as I am entitled to a free upgrade and no need to pay extra on build?

3. On new custom-built PC, I then insert USB and instal Windows 10.

4. Now I am unsure what next, Do I Then log into my Microsoft account and it recognises me and new PC with Digital Licence linked to your Microsoft Account, then go to windows updates and update everything for Windows 10 and after that is complete it should show install Windows 11 and install?

Or

log into my Microsoft account and it recognises me and new PC with Digital Licence linked to your Microsoft Account, then go to windows updates and update everything for Windows 10, then download My Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 and all my apps etc. etc. and then go to updates and it should show install Windows 11 and install and will this install on top of all my downloads etc. or is it a complete installation wiping everything?

Thank you for any help, advice, and your suggestions to the above

Your pc is old, you correctly identified you need to buy a new one.

The easiest option would be to buy a pre built pc with windows 11 included.

The cheapest option would be a self build and to obtain a windows 11 key at the cheapest price you can find.

I see your thinking about trying to keep your current retail key, but I don't see that being worth the hassle.

Windows 10 retail keys activate Windows 11 afaik, as long as the version is equivalent I.E. home, Pro etc.

You can download installation media right from Microsoft, so worst case you can buy a key later down the line once the new PC is all set up

I'd be looking for a refurbed Dell, HP of Lenovo unit if it's ony for home use, you get a 12 month warranty and Win11 preinstalled.
