Aeronautical Engineering

right, here are a couple of papers for you.

There are:

1st year - Maths, Turbomachinery, Aerodynamics
2nd year - Maths, Mechanics of Flight, Aerodynamics

I couldnt get a hold of any papers from the third or fourth year and these are only just a few of the first years courses. The courses get a lot more specific in the later years. You go into CFD, turbulence, structural dynamics, aircraft design, wing design, sonic aero etc etc. Of course this does vary on uni :)

Though it does have to be said - the courses are all basically maths based, at the end of the day. So if you can't hack Further Maths at A-level (or at least get a resoundingly solid "A" at A-level Maths) you aren't going to make it without sweating profusely*.

*I can only speak for the course at Imperial, I don't know about the quality of the course at other unis.

compared to mech at Imperial, the maths papers are the same the turbomachinery is year 2 for us and the aero stuff is a mixture of year 1 and 2 and some we havent done (atleast in the first 2 years theres more in year 3).

With the maths we covered most of further maths a level in about a term so if your maths isnt really up to scratch getting working on it early.

I will 2nd (or 3rd) the Maths bit. You need to have a decent appreciation of the subject and be able to keep the interest into industry. You can't beat a quick handcalc when required.

The differences between Aero, Auto and Mechanical engineering aren't huge and doing well in a degree from a respected engineering Uni will give you excellent freedom of choice when it comes to a career. Most courses wil have some cross over anyway between the disciplines, you cannot afterall to CFD without also looking at the structural aspect of the system either.

To complete the quote above, whilst you may never become a millionaire from engineering, you shouldn't go poor either, but most of us to the job because we enjoy it.

I awlays wanted to do this until i found out that Nigeria University dont offer it at all. On top of that am rubbish at basic maths. :p

havent read this thread but I do Aeronautical and Aerospace engineering at Leeds. Just started second year. If you want any specific questions answered I'd be glad to

so why in the **** post in it? bah, its disrespectful not to read a thread you're posting in, let alone opening your own post with a statement thereof.

/rant

Your class and I actually mean that.

if you had read the thread like a normal person you would realise that people here have already posted a lot more info than you and tbh I wouldn't brag about doing it at leeds.
