African Cup of Nations 2012

I know absolutely nothing about African football so I'm going to start watching all if not most games. Plus a few quid on each game will make it a bit more interesting :D

I hope Ivory Coast win becase I've heard of some of the players :D

Nice Chelsea double act there for Ivory Coast with Drogba scoring from Salomon Kalou's cross to win 1-0 against Sudan.

THe round up on epsn for the game is hilarious, for an Arsenal fan who thinks Gervinho is crap that is.

Basically read, Gervinho fluffs easy chance, great play by everybody else but Gervinho misses a sitter, someone else sets up a chance for someone that is not Gervinho to score after Gervinho gives the ball away stupidly.

Okay its not quite that bad but the only mention of Gervinho is missing great chances :p

Newcastle fans will be hoping for a Equatorial Guinea win I assume, if they lose tonight they are probably out early, one more game then get two strikers back.

Some a round up of the game, Cisse was involved in some good stuff and both had a mare infront of goal as in, both helped create a bunch of great chances and both should have scored a couple but just one of those days.

hehe, yup, just saw it and thought I'd come back in here and see a happy Newcastle fan or two.

:) :) :)

Sort of watched the two matches. Cisse positional skills seems really good like ba's and you can see why he gets a lot of goals.

Mind you it was pretty dam hard to tell if he can play football last night lol Senegal might as well been playing in a swimming pool with amount of water last night that was on the pitch.

They could be available for the Blackburn game :)

saw gabon play on itv4 when they beat Niger 2-0

some players are so young and very powerful!

does zidan still play for egypt? damn they are not even in the competition lol

Another Chelsea double act for Ivory Coast as they beat Burkina Faso 2-0, with Drogba setting up the first goal for Salomon Kalou.

Ivory Coast almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Diakite did well to deny Drogba and Gervinho in quick succession, although the Arsenal man's effort would not have counted anyway due to offside.
Gervinho spurned a decent opening to increase his side's advantage at the start of the second half, before the left-footed Traore saw two good efforts saved by Boubacar Barry.
Gervinho blazed an even better opportunity over when unmarked six yards out in the 60th minute and soon after he produced a good parry out of Diakite after bending a shot around a defender.

I looked up the match report on ESPN thinking, I bet Gervinho sucked again.

First time I see his name it says keeper saved a good effort....... but he was offside, then he missed a good chance, then he missed an even better chance.

lol, seriously, that's the Gervinho I see for Arsenal, zero end product at all, woeful in front of goal and the report from the first game was laughably similar were EVERY mention of Gervinho was him screwing something up basically.

Gervinho fired over with the first shot of the game before Najem Abdullah was booked for fouling the Arsenal forward.

Jean-Jacques Gosso's 25-yard swipe was wildly off target and Yaya Toure and Gervinho were off target with headers.

Gervinho lashed wastefully wide following Drogba's superb control and lay-off but the opener finally arrived when Salomon Kalou crossed from the left for Chelsea team-mate Drogba to head home his 51st international goal.

Gervinho's close-range effort almost caused problems for keeper Elmuez Maghoub before Mudather injured himself as he landed awkwardly after a ludicrously ambitious overhead effort from around 30 yards

Gervinho then struck a dropping ball just high and wide of the target and Toure got his 25-yard effort all wrong before the game petered out, Nazar shooting well wide from Sudan's last opportunity.

That's from the first game report(the game wasn't all Gervinho bits, I cut out non Gervinho parts), same thing, Gervinho misses, Gervinho wasteful, Gervinho misses from close range, etc, etc. Really can't wait for him to get back and Wenger to drop Ox for Gervinho :(

I picked Gabon to win this, they just played an incredible game against Morocco. 0-1 after 77 mins, Gabon score in 78th and 81st mins, Morocco equalise after 90+1, Gabon score after 90+8 for 3-2

Does anyone know why Ghana are nicknamed Black Stars? old kit colour? if not it sounds a bit politically incorrect given recent events. :p
