After a "hot" hatch...

I say "hot" as the amount of £££ I've got probably doesn't get me one of the proper 20k+ hatches...

Anyways the requirements:
1) 150bhp+
2) mpg 45 and above
3) seats 4
4) needs to be an every day car - will be using this on my commute.

Budget is around 10k but can stretch to 14k if its a must.

Examples of cars I've been looking at
1) Fabia vrs: Matches all of the requirements above, only thing stopping me really liking this car is it looks so ugly :(
2) DS3 - mpg a little low but love the looks of this car. Are Citroen 'decent' now?
3) Fiesta (Zetec S / Metal) -Love the look of the new car, only thing pushing me away is I've got a Focus (2002), would going to a Fiesta be more of the same rather than something new?
4) giulietta (1.4 multi-air) - Really like this car, looks and performance look great. It's a bit pricey and worried about Alfa reliability - have they improved.

Any others I should be looking at?
Cheers guys.

150bhp doesn't make a hot hatch! Drop the ridiculous mpg that you want and you have some great cars, none of those cars will ever make that sort of mpg consistently, only going 56mph drafting a lorry if you're lucky!

Dropping the mpg you have so many great cars, Renault Clio 197/200, Mini Cooper S, or something bigger like a previous shape megane or Ford Focus.

150bhp doesn't make a hot hatch!

Neither does 200, 250 or even 300bhp.

I can think of some hot hatches with 150bhp that'd keep up with or even lose some with 200 once you throw in some corners.

The drive makes a hot hatch, not the power. :)

Actually, just had a bit of a thought. What about the MK5 Golf GT TDI? The one that has the looks of the GTI but with the sound track of a tractor.

Hot hatch with 150bhp and 45mpg?

And Joshy, I drove one of those Golf GT diesels for a week. It was like someone had taken 2 halves of 2 good cars and moulded them into one rubbish one.

Whilst that's not bad (mpg wise) the normal Megane 225 isn't exactly a very good hot hatch, if i was going to put up with that sort of economy i'd spend my money on something else.

The normal Megane indeed isn't a very hood hot hatch, but for £14k you wouldn't buy a "normal" Megane 225.

The Cupra is a good shout though, good blend of performance/economy.

Ibiza cupra is a damn good shout actually, i completely forgot they existed as they only come in with the DSG box which i hate. But still a very good car if the 'box doesn't bother you.
